okay, this is not the conversation I thought I’d be having this morning, but here we are.
first off: I don’t want to doubt that they’re trying to improve performance, I’m just saying that, in its current state, the game runs terribly, and in its most recent update, makes FireFox freeze and/or crash before the login screen even comes up.
secondly: it would be one thing if they simply did that. it would be a dishonest trailer, but that’s one thing. my main problem is the fact they lied about running a server stress test (which took place after an incident in which the server was over-stressed because of rarebaiting) in order to record this trailer.
it’s not like CPLeg has never had parties they could’ve shown off. the Medieval Party, Summer Kickoff Party, and Mountain Expedition all could’ve worked perfectly for trailer footage. but instead, they lied to their players about a stress test in order to record a trailer to lie to potential new players.
and even if that trailer wasn’t misleading... it doesn’t counteract the fact they have definitely been focused on forcing rarity culture in the past. they’ve had multiple meetups where a mascot only visited once with an exclusive background (keep in mind there is a glitch where the game literally will not load if there’s too many people trying to log in at once), they’ve had items only be available for 30 minutes or less, they’ve had the Aunt Arctic incident. “what’s the aunt arctic incident?” you may ask. well. they hyped up an Aunt Arctic meetup during the Mountain Expedition with a super exclusive, only-going-to-be-available-this-one-time background and...
...yeah, it didn’t exactly go well. and the fucking kicker?
this was all for a generic background from the original game, Aunt Arctic’s Autograph.
her actual Mountain Expedition background, Aunt Arctic’s Mountain Giveaway, is technically rarer than the background they hyped up so hard stuff broke, because she only had two visits total for it.
