If you're a digital person, then high resolution audio is all the rage. Almost to the exclusion of all other forms of digital musical replay. Well, I'm here to remind you that high quality digital replay can be found in many forms, including 16/44 Redbook. Take the CD under consideration here, the Audio Wave XRCD24 of Sonny Clark's album "Cool Struttin'." These XRCD's come damn close to many SACD's I've heard, lacking only that sense of atmosphere and space that high-rez digital does so effortlessly. But listen to the tone and timbre of each instrument, the sense of soundstage, the individuality of each instrument as well as how they meld together while still being their own selves. Yep, a well mastered CD like these XRCD's can sound good enough to take your breath away. But good sound alone isn't enough. You need to meld that superb sound with equally superb music, and that's what Audio Wave has done here by remastering select Blue Note Records titles on XRCD. "Cool Struttin'" is a classic jazz title, featuring Clark, Art Farmer, Jackie McLean, Paul Chambers and "Philly" Joe Jones. Recorded in 1958 and reissued here in its stereo itineration, this CD presents this classic tittle in sound that does total justice to the music. Here you get an excellent example of how great an engineer Rudy Van Gelder was, and why he is considered the master of jazz recording engineers. If you can't dig the music and sound of this XRCD, then there's something wrong with either your hearing or your system. A superb reissue that shows that high resolution audio isn't restricted to SACD, DVD-A or high-rez downloads. Most highly recommended to every music lover. #CD #Digital #XRCD #Jazz #music #album #albumcover #audio #audiophile #audiophilepressing #audiophilerecording #stereo
