i had my perspective changed recently by some punks on tumblr that were more educated/involved in the scene than i currently am. The information they gave me has made me realize that my previous argument of punk being more idealogy than music doesn't really check. Like think of it, there are MULTIPLE types of punk scenes/genres and they all have different ideas of punk. Like sure a lot of the scenes can agree bigotry and capitalism are bad but that doesn't mean that's the sole idea that carries the entire punk community. like pop punk, (if you count it as punk or not) tends to not dwell on political issues too hard (depending on the band) and focuses more on angst with growing up or being an adult. I could go on comparing and contrasting diferent scenes and genres but i think you get the point. and to those like me that REALLY are into punk but just are having trouble getting to shows right now, i'd advise not to worry and that you'll find your way to them sooner or later if you REALLY are serious about it. And that group of punks aren't wrong either, without going to shows, online punk is just a big arts and crafts thing. Like no hate at all to anyone but they're right, if you're serious about punk try to go to shows, if you somehow can't (strict parents smth or rather) at least do the bare minimum and research the history and watch shows on channels like hate5six or channels associated with scenes in your state/province. but yea uh, idk. without going to shows and helping the local bands out, what does the scene become? It would die, and become nothing but digital consumerism so please if you can, go to shows, i plan on doing so too very very soon. (i'll be sure to post about it:] )
feeling spooky
the one time im not weird for listening to goth music in rural america
happy halloween, merry gothmas lmaooo
proposition
so the term poser has been ruined and kinda overused by metal/punk groups since like 2000 something so i propose the poser scale. it goes as follows
poser (wears the shirts but doesnt know the band on them, just likes the image etc,)
lightweight (listens to only the popular artists of said genre, metallica, ramones, etc)
middleweight (a good mix of some popular bands, and some lesser known bands but they still have like 700k-900k monthly listeners. might be aware of heavier bands)
heavy weight (either listens to exclusively the heaviest most underground bands first, or builds up to them)
lmk if this should be implemented
grindcore
grindcore
how do i convince the other half of my band/duo "hello mr green man" is a terrible debut demo/album name for a blackened folk metal band
feel free to add better names
the band name is The Great Unbecoming if that helps any
tryna go for an appalachain horror vibe
for followers of my band
thank you to all that know of my band or listened to any of our stuff!! it means the world to me.
now real talk, the drummer in my band is always busy, so i am looking for a new one. while doing so, music releases will be slower. I guess i should tell you my goal here.
I really love alternative subcultures, and find myself hanging online and irl with punks, metal heads, emos, etc and i really love all the music that comes with it. With my band Dystopian Outfit i plan to bring literally all the outcasts and subcultures together (cheesy ik but just here me out a min). I want a sound that people can cry, mosh, rave, and fall in love to all at once. I hope yall think this is a good idea, like sure its probably super hard but i really love all this cool music, and it sounds really good together!
so yea hopefully smth kewl will be cooking soon. rn the band is a mix of like skramz with modern baseball and nocturnal depression lyrics, but also a healthy dose of beatdown and slam. probs gonna mix hyperpop and speedcore sorta stuff in later ( I LOVE IT! if yall have any hyperpop song suggestions please lmk!)
thanks yall!
PUNK
I LOVE PUNK ITS SO AWESOME HOLY CRAP
