It had been some time, a week maybe two that she'd been staying at her home in the country. It had been a mess, everything that happened but they'd gotten all of them, and gotten the girls out. It was hard to remember but she vaguely had a memory of asking John while he was carrying her towards the jet if they were out. He'd sad a few things but all that stuck in her mind was, they were the last two out.
She hated thinking about what happened, the things she could hear and the feeling of being helpless. It was just another scar on her of wanting to help others but at the same time, she wasn't paying enough attention to stop herself from being caught. People were freed though and she had to keep that going in her mind.
It might have been easier if it all hadn't got to John so much either and the choice of the team to let them both recover separately, at first angered her and then she realized that neither needed to be around each other because he wasn't him and Kara was a empty hole of regret. She would have made him worse, and he would have done the same to her.
Kara hadn't seen him at all, she hadn't talked to him but they'd exchanged a handful of texts. Nothing more than checking in. She'd been told that John checked in on her but had talked to Wanda and Audrey, Kara not wanting to talk to anyone, yet. The texts were sweet and felt the way they did before the mission which was a place Kara often found herself wanting to be.
She knew John was coming to get her. There was part of her that didn't want to go back to the city and back to fighting bad guys. Even the thought of using her powers, or feeling pain any of it at all made her hands shake. How was she going to be around John and be the same woman he loved. She was still so broken and going back to do the same things she'd been doing. She wasn't ready for that and didn't know when she would be.
She sat in her favorite window, arms wrapped around her legs and a cup of coffee sitting next to her. When she saw his bike pull up and had to smile. As his helmet slipped of, Kara stood up and went towards the door, walking out onto the large wrap around porch. He looked so different, so much the man she'd feel in love with before all of these new bad things unfolded and for the first time in awhile she smiled. Her hands ran over her body, knowing she was about twenty pounds smaller and her skin a pale color it had never been before. She chewed on her lower lip, now at the top of the stairs looking down at him.
"I missed you."
