As The Reclaimers of Isenvale reach The City of Alivast, the Unexpectables community is excited to revisit the home of the first campaign!
So in celebration a bunch of us made OCs that could exist in this beloved setting.
My contribution is "Iina the Wanderer" - a yakfolk of the continental Alivast
To read more about her and all the other characters in the collab, be sure to check out the Return To Alivast pdf on Bsky here
A handful of variants mounts and companions, a new yakfolk warrior and yakfolk shaman, a cadaver collector, and a medusa (who may be coming up in my campaign)
For reasons we don’t need to go into right now, our group had a mission to rob a caravan. It was important that the contents remain undamaged so the bard figured he’d use some spells to petrify the drivers and therefore leaving the carts (and stuff within) undamaged. (as only creatures would be effected.)
Starting off the encounter, the bard (his character had a name but we just called him Bard or ‘The Bard’) cast the spell ‘Cast in stone’ on himself (which gave him a petrification gaze) and then flew over the caravan and hit all the drivers to turn them into stone. Twice. This would also hit the yaks pulling the carts but the party didn’t really care. However since they were in the area of effect, the yaks did get to roll versus the spell effect. They were straight, out-of-the-book yaks so their saves vs spells weren’t great, especially vs our bards high level spells.
But wait! One of the yaks miraculously rolls a natural 20 on its save. Twice. He lives. Guards from inside the carts emerge and a battle ensues but the yak somehow isn’t hurt and is the last creature from the caravan left alive. What did out party do then?
They polymorphed the yak into a yakfolk (a sentient yak person) and he now lives on top of the mountain that is our base.
