yakob, always a visitor - edgar, sometimes his victim

i usually think of yakobpoe with human edgar -

"you are inherently dangerous but i'm dying anyway. what better circumstances to understand each other?"

- but both yakob and him being visitors? that is such a special treat. visitor ed in general! hes not just watching himself die and admiring the beauty, he paints his victim's deaths as well.

consider that bodies are found bagged up in thirds, even when they're killed by visitors. that must include some dismembering- visitors may all approach it differently, some being repulsed and wanting to get it over with as soon as possible, some being apathetic like they're skinning prey, some may take their time out of respect for the dead.

Yakob and Edgar work together to kill one of the human guests in the night, and Yakob watches. Watches as Eddie takes the body outside and lays it down gently. No burial, no bags- he doesn't want those things for himself, so why would he for others?

He sits with them for as long as he can get away with before the sun comes up. And in those hours, even through the windows, Yakob can see the unmeasurable depth in Edgar's gaze. Yakob watches as Edgar regards every corpse with reverence, like they're each some sort of profound masterpiece that teaches him something important. That Edgar thanks them for with love.

Yakob finds himself curious what being the subject of that gaze would feel like.
