After a couple years of hemming and hawing, I bought a pair of 1978 DT 175 enduro motorbikes for the Lady Wife and me to rip around Portland. They're also serving as my introduction to learning how to wrench. These sweeties are powered by a single cylinder, two stroke engine with reed valve induction fixed to a six-speed transmission. I'm still not sure I understand what a reed valve is. We'll get there. For some commentary on the DT 175's place in the universe, read this loving write-up at Hooniverse. Bikes have both been lightly used over the last 35+ years, they're both south of 7,000 miles on the odometers. VIN and plate numbers are endearingly consecutive, meaning this couple has been together since the beginning. Pretty sweet.
Both bikes are runners albeit a little rough. I bought the Clymer manual and will be doing a routine tune up on Wife Lady's bike first.
This should be hilarious.
