I really like your AU designs! Can we ask questions about the characters? I'd love to know more about Apollyon (or your universe in general!)

YES OF COURSE!! i love questions about my au... ill always answer! (apologies for she/her apollyon, im just so used to using she) Apollyon actually wasnt the most interesting character for me, UNTIL ive found a design that works. Ive always seen apollyon as a stone cold character, but i didnt wanna make her intimidating so shes pretty pathetic ... i mainly got this from that one tweet from edmund, about apollyons wings, and how useless they are.

see, back when Edith still ran the cult, she used to be really quiet and awkward. Mainly to uphold a great image in Ediths eyes, but also due to her absolutely sucking at social cues.

Due to her being a seemingly "good" example, Bethany would send Lazarus over to Apollyons for Apolly to watch over him. Laz was at his sickest then, and Beth didnt have time to take proper care of him. (workaholism strikes once again!)

and now that ediths gone, shes just having one-sided beef with basicaslly everybody. Shes stupid. But shes my lovely child so its okay.

tainted bethany is an interesting character for me to write

My Bethany has always been ridden with perfection, everything she was (or at least thought to be) HAD to be perfect. Every morning shed straighten her hair, put herself together, try to rehabilitate everyone she met that she deemed corrupted (hence her long friendship with Azazel).

Faith was also a big part of her since childhood. Being probably the most devoted member of the whole cult Edith created, she slowly devoted her whole life to it.

While yes, she used to be very put together, everything sort of… fell apart. One day Edith decided to ditch this whole thing and just disappear. Eden being her partner, decided to step in and take that position.

Eden being a way more passive leader than Edith was, put Bethany in a state where she thought that the church is in her own hands, from scolding everyone who didn’t follow the preaches stated to doing all the paperwork herself. (main reason why she is so passive-aggressive and basically done with everyone. Theres really no power in staying in this “nice” persona she created prior to all this.)

alongside the papers, she wrote a lot of things in her personal time. Everything she wrote down was either wishing to be perfect or reassuring herself that she is doing gods work. As in her mind, perfection = saint.

while discovering the way to “make” herself perfect (using wisps to appear how she wanted to) caring for her actual self wasn’t needed. This, while yes, did make her seemingly good looking, was just a facade, in reality making her more tired and gruesome looking each day.

The only one really experiencing her madness was Lazarus, as she has deceived others to believe that she really was just this amazing! While everything was falling apart, she stayed like this somehow, in their eyes at least.

But oh well.
