my belated New Year’s resolution is to learn new words this year. i want my vocabulary to sparkle like the milky way with all the little gems i collect.

lately ive been reading the dictionary for fun. did you know "froward" is a word? so you can go forward frowardly. love this

This is something really funny that I keep thinking about, at least from a Polish person's perspective here. The word for Slavic people comes from slovo meaning word meaning people who could communicate with each other in the same language. And then we have all the other nations who don't speak this language and so slavs would not understand them. they got called something like mute/non-speakers (even though they spoke), usually about people who spoke german(ic?) languages. So to this day we don't call Germans - Germans but we call them 🤐 Niemcy - niemy - mute - people who don't speak the language.

Some times I wonder what it would be like to have fingers and then I ask meta Knight if I can borrow his gloves but he never lest me. He doesn't even have fingers either but the gloves do its weird!

Some ficlet. Ben, Rook, Argit, and discussion of relative sales.

“So,” Ben made the decision to ask one evening as he, Rook, and Argit sat on a roof eating takeout, “according to Gwen you sold your mom once?” Argit finished with his bite before answering, heedless of Rook’s eyes going wide as he scowled down at him.

“Yeah,” he said like it was nothing, “and if you ever met her, which I hope you don’t, you don’t deserve it, you’d understand.”

“Your own mother,” Rook said, disdain dripping off his words. The look Argit threw his way was sharp, quills puffed up and lips pulled back.

“My ma,” he said, “is the singular worst person I know. Everything you don’t like about me? Comes with a big old dose of trying to be a better person than that fucker.”

“You betrayed us to the Incurseans,” Rook countered.

“And Ma wouldn’ta taken a month of no progress and ‘if only Ben was here’ whining to do it.”

Considering just keeping his head down, Ben took another bite of his food- he didn’t know what the meat was and he knew enough not to ask, but at least it was tasty- and watched the two glare each other down. On second thought maybe he shouldn’t have asked in front of Rook. There was a lot going on with the guy’s family, but nothing bad. Ben at least could understand that things got complicated, and figured if Kevin knew- which he apparently did- and had no issue there was probably a story there. Rook though…

“That bad, huh,” Ben asked, cutting in before anybody opened their mouth again and made things worse. Argit scoffed.

“Red and your buddy can judge all they want,” he said, “but I don’t see either of ‘em wondering where I learned all this shit.”
