It was quite the rainy day; usually Lain wouldn’t check the weather, as it usually forgot. Today it actually remembered, though, so it brought an umbrella with it. Web really liked the rain - it was just that web.s parents didn’t want web to get drenched. When gore was younger, gore never really understood why. Wacky now knew it was just so wacky wouldn’t bring water in. Wacky still didn’t understand why, actually.
Lain walked home in silence. While evil was silent, evils surroundings weren’t. They were noisy - rain dropping down on the pavement and roofs (well, anywhere it could go), cars driving by, people talking… It was a pleasant noisy, though (if that made any sense). Lain was used to it. Tune was quite fond of it, actually.
Tune was also alone, though. Usually Chisa would be walking with it, but today she called out sick. Lain didn’t mind though. Sometimes it was nice to be alone.
Soon, it found itself standing next to someone else at one of the crosswalks. She was one of the girls in its class - they’d never talked, though it knew her. Not very well, but enough to know her name. Alice.
He was quite pretty, actually. He had short hair that reached his shoulders, and had brown eyes that were as beautiful as the clear night sky. Lain blushed.
He was drenched, though, and he looked miserable. Lain silently offered its umbrella. Its hands were shaking.
“Oh, thanks,” Alice replied, stepping under the umbrella. She was wearing a cardigan and a black and red t-shirt, along with some cargo shorts. She was holding a soda. A Pepsi, to be exact. Lain took note of that.
“you’re welcome,” Lain mumbled nervously. It looked down at the ground.
Alice smiled politely at xim.
“So, uhm, you’re Lain, right?” He asked, trying to start a conversation.
Lain looked up at him. “Yeah, I’m Lain.”
They both laughed nervously somewhat.
“So, how was your day?” Alice asked.
The crosswalk sign beeped, signaling them that it was ok to walk. They started walking together, albeit slowly so Alice could stay under Lain’s umbrella.
“It was okay-ish,” Lain replied. “Well, it was just. A day, you know?”
Alice nodded. She knew exactly what gore was talking about.
“Ah, yeah,” she chuckled. “I get that.”
“How was your day?”
Surprisingly enough, Lain was actually… enjoying talking to someone that wasn’t Chisa. It felt like it could trust Alice enough to talk to him about what it liked, what it did, about itself.
“It was pretty good,” Alice replied. “Not great, but good. Like you said, just a day.”
They chuckled together. They felt at peace.
“Oh, hey, that’s my house!” Lain exclaimed. “You can borrow my umbrella, just make sure to bring it back.”
Alice nodded. “Of course.”
They waved goodbye to eachother and walked their separate ways, Lain entering its home and Alice walking the rest of the way home. Maybe they should walk more often; just the two of them.
