Brief Two Project
The project is a work-exhibition-socializing space for an artist’s community.
Two essential parts of the project are the artists’ studios and the central shared space.
Artists’ preferences will play major role in the design of the space. They will input their medium, desired area and height of studio into a spreadsheet. Then the data is brought into grasshopper to generate each studio unit.
The studios will then be scattered randomly on each floor, loosely grouped together according to medium, and reoriented to fit the nature of the shared space, i.e. exhibition, collaboration, event, leisure, etc.
Pavilion Maker
(Two full sized gifs links below)
The tool assists in the process of designing an organic shaped open-air pavilion by giving instant visual and statistical feedback.
The tool takes three curves as inputs and generates a structural system with steel ribs and triangular panels. The panels are color-coded according to the deviation from the original smooth surface. The volume of steel used is calculated.
The tool desires the designer to refine the geometry where there is more undesired deviation, and adjust the level of precision based on visual outcome and cost of steel.
