@ycgurtpants​                          ————                          there’s something incredibly exposing about answering his apartment door,  with no pants on. even more so, when the person at his door isn’t some twenty-something delivering his takeout. no. instead, it’s someone from his past. not just anyone though   —   noelle kringle.    “ wow. okay. this is a thing that’s happening. ”    said more so to himself, but he’s thankful that for both their sakes, he has a shirt on and some god damn underwear. a kringle in arizona wasn’t high up on the possibility list, yet here she was. as plain as day and all warmly bundled, enough to make him start to sweat.    “ hi? ”

the siblings seem to get a bit hyper the day after christmas. knowing that the holidays are over and that they can take a well deserved break puts them in good moods. nick sits back in his chair, rubbing at a jolly stomach, scoffing at his sister’s words with half lidded eyes. ❝ after all those christmas cookies ? ❞ nick’s glance is nothing less than skeptical. ❝ forget it . i’d like t’see you try . ❞

❝ i know , i just - ❞ an almost frustrated huff leaves the man. he doesn’t want to seem insecure, but even his hot chocolate wasn’t improving his mood this time. and cocoa always made him feel better. eyes travel to his sister, sitting across from him, brows furrowed in irritation. not at her, but at the way nick is feeling. ❝ i feel like i let mom and dad down . i mean , don’t get me wrong , you were by far th’better choice for santa , but... ❞ head now hangs as he swirls the liquid with a spoon. ❝ i was a legacy , and i blew it . sometimes i just... i dunno . feel bad about it , i guess . does that make sense ? ❞

❝ didn’t we talk about how weird it was for you t’talk in the third person ? ❞ he’s joking, or at least mostly is, when noelle steps out of her sleigh, christmas morning. nick can practically hear the joyous cries of the children she’s delivered to, and he gives his sister a watery stare, embracing her tightly.  ❝ mom’s been up all night baking your favorite cookies . i think you’re th’favorite now , ❞
