you would think that all of the millennial contemporary romance authors would want to criticize the act of house flipping, considering it is DEFINITELY part of the reason that the housing crisis is, and will continue to get, so fucking bad. there's multiple books where the main character wants to flip a house for a profit, ignoring the idea that flipping a house means you ALREADY have the money to do so. usually these main characters buy a house and want to "fix it up" which is fine, i get that, i would love to buy a house and fix it up. but the "flipper" mindset is so fucking harmful and it's never criticized. the idea of a mid to late 20 year old who can FIND a cheap house to buy is unrealistic in the world we are living in currently. all of the cheap starter houses have been bought by flippers who flip houses as a side business. and then sell them for Slightly Higher Than What A Starter Home Should Cost. there are no starter homes anymore. the concept of buying a cheap home and being able to fix it up for yourself is unattainable. mass produced suburbia houses are getting built and are too expensive for young people to invest in for their first house. more and more apartment buildings are being built instead of 1200 sq ft ranches, FORCING young people into renting (at stupidly inflated costs). and i do know why these authors don't criticize it. it's largely white women with generational money and husbands who have "real jobs" to support them. and i do think a lot of millennials are, frankly, so up their own ass, that they cannot think about WHY things are the way they are, they just go "capitalism bad :(" and then go to disney world every year.
