Helloo was in the Meljay discord talking about how Ambessa commented that Mel was fond of Jayce. And it's like, how would she have known that her daughter was in love if she hasn't seen Mel since she was (presumably a child). I mean, it could have been that Elora spied on Mel and reported back to Ambessa, but I do believe her loyalties lay with Mel. It's likely because Ambessa knew what she was like when she was in love, and she saw the same signs, same behaviors Ambessa has exhibited in her affair. The protectiveness, and the softness Mel has with Jayce. Mel is Ambessa's child after all.

And then comes the knowledge that Ambessa orchestrated the memorial attack in an effort, no doubt, to get rid of Jayce and gain control of Mel through grief. I'm thinking Ambessa believed Mel's love for Jayce makes her weak. Especially in the face of the needs of her family. Jayce was someone Ambessa was willing to sacrifice to bring Mel back to the family, back to her cause.

And this makes you wonder. Do you think Ambessa regrets her affair? Does she hate that she fell in love? Does she wish someone had done for her what she attempted to do to Mel? Perhaps then she wouldn't be so weak. Weak to her children. I think so. One of her voice lines say, "Distractions create wounds that never close! But my children are worth every scar." It's possible that her heart was broken after her affair, and it's something that she has never recovered from. And perhaps that is why she is so intent on sampling the local cuisine. She's trying to heal a wound that won't close, trying to ease her loneliness. I don't know, it just seems to me like such a very sad and lonely way to live.
