The big-screen version of Hunter S. Thompson's seminal psychedelic classic about his road trip across Western America as he and his large Samoan lawyer searched desperately for the "American dream"ā¦ they were helped in large part by the huge amount of drugs and alcohol kept in their convertible, The Red Shark.
*Much of the clothing (shirts, hats) worn by Johnny Depp in the movie were actual pieces of clothing that the real Hunter S. Thompson wore in the '70s. Thompson himself let Depp borrow them for the movie, after Depp spent four months with Thompson learning his mannerisms and proper vocal inflection for the role.
*Terry Gilliam nominated for the Palme d'Or at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival.
