Synopsis:

The story begins when Lee Mong Ryong is transferred from Seoul to a high school in Namwon, North Jeolla Province. Choon Hyang does her best to help Mong Ryong, her first love and the son of the Namwon Police Station chief, to enter a prestigious university. However, after meeting with Mong Ryong’s first love, Chae Rin, Mong Ryong’s love toward Choon Hyang is shattered, although Choon Hyang’s love remains unwavering. One day, Byeon Hak Do, CEO of a famous entertainment company, appears in her life. He exudes confidence that he can make any woman fall for him. But as Choon Hyang shows no interest in him, his self-esteem is damaged profoundly. Byeon Hak Do is determined to make her love him.

Choon Hyang is the modern version of a folk tale in Korea. I have no idea what that story was about though. What I know is that this version is one heck of a rom-com Kdrama. It reminds me of that Taiwanese drama entitled It Started with a Kiss. Two very different story lines, but the acting concept is so much alike it makes me laugh my ass out thinking about it.

During the first half of the drama, it starts light and really wacky. The two protagonists clashed so much that they both got so much into trouble. There were many misunderstanding that it was hard not to laugh with the absurdity of it all and because of those misconceptions, the two protagonists end up getting married. This was not because of love but it’s due to an incident which could ruin both of their family’s reputation. As they both struggle to live harmoniously with each other amid the forced marriage, both eventually realize that they liked each other but was denying it too much. That’s it for the first half, for later half of the show, it goes much more serious since the main characters are grown up and live as adults with remnants of conflicts which set them apart for some time.

With this story line, it was fun, entertaining and gave me little room to be bored since the drama would serve the right amount of serious moment then revert to it’s old theme romantic comedy theme. In additional, the actor’s are really cute! Given that their age are a bit mature to be seen as high school students, still, the way they acted was really fun to watch. Given that this is an old drama, I could say that watching it was worth it.

The OST is memorable and the feeling of giddiness inside still remains whenever I hear the sound track of this drama. I’m recommending it to those who feel like watching an old feel good romcom.
