This is generally what I do for the year ahead readings, one card for each month and then a card to summarize! This reading takes hours to do, but is interesting to look back on as the year passes.

Aries 2022 Year Ahead Birthday Spread

March 2022- Empress

This will be a very fertile time for you. You are nurturing and at a period of growth and abundance. For some of you this could mean conception or pregnancy. For others, this could be the birth of a new idea that will impact your life. With the six of cups below, it’s hard to ignore that a child or children are at the center of the beginning of your year. However, this pregnancy could be someone you’re close to like a sister or close friend. It can also mean abundant outcomes. This is a card of reassurance. The risks you take and the work you put in will pay off in the end. Sometimes this card can serve as a warning that female family members may be interfering in your plans and relationship. All in all, try to relax and have fun! *

April 2022- Six of Cups

This month you may be hit with a wave of nostalgia, walking down memory lane. You’re remembering your childhood, this could be with the Empress above that you have a bun in the oven. You may see someone from your past that had or will have a huge impact. This April you may be confronted with something from your past. For some of you, this may be an ex coming back. If rekindling with an old flame is something you want, then this card will be a welcome sight. The past may repeat itself. You may return to your hometown or the house you grew up in. For some of you, an old drama that you would rather not revisit may emerge. Something you hold dear may start to vanish. Sometimes we lose something we love not because of what we did do, but what we didn’t. Don’t neglect loved ones or possessions.*

May 2022- Two of Pentacles

This month you're going to need to be able to multi-task. You need to juggle all aspects of your life. You find yourself with a lot of priorities to balance (work/play/family/leisure). This may be due to the baby situation mentioned above. This month will be all about management- time, money, and resources. You may have financial difficulty this month. It’s likely you need a budget. If that doesn’t apply to you, it could mean you are spending your time unwisely. You may be giving too much time to short-term things instead of things that will serve you long-term. You need to reassess your priorities. These difficulties will be temporary. Look at this as a perfect opportunity to set up a stable future for yourself. You will be juggling a lot this month, but it will ultimately be for the better. You may be dealing with a Capricorn here.*

June 2022- Page of Cups (Reversed)

There is some sort of deception going on in your life. The feelings of a person around you may be false with how they’re presenting themselves. You may undergo a block in creativity. There are projects you find interesting, but you’re doing them for reasons other than for the joy of it, You may be doing it for money, fame, or something else. Advice from this Page is to remember why you started doing the project in the first place. Remember the fun you used to have when you first started. Another meaning is a troubled person. This could be you or someone in your life. This person is afraid of the reality of a situation that could be related to career, money, love. This person has difficulty facing issues. Be careful because often this person often turns to drugs or alcohol to cope. Whoever this person is, this person is struggling with self-acceptance. You may be emotionally vulnerable and insecure at work. *

July 2022- King of Wands

This month you’re a visionary. You are warm, generous, and honest with the people you love. You’re intelligent and entrepreneurial. Be mindful of being arrogant, egotistical, or a perfectionist. As we move into July, you will be inspired by the king of fire and inspiration. You will feel passionate about being a leader this month. You won’t let little things like setbacks or distractions cloud your vision. People will look up to your enthusiastic and powerful influence. Your charisma will be infectious and you're a natural at coaching others. The kindness, protection and support you show others will leave you feeling loved and respected. You’ll take great pride in being an appreciated member of the community. Follow your instincts. Be prepared. You may need to reinforce your authority this month. You will need to do so with integrity and honesty. Overseeing and protecting your assets will be a priority. Use your own instincts for guidance. Be aware of outside influences and take action when you see fit. Ask yourself, “Do I leap to conclusions and overreact too much? Why?”*

August 2022- Page of Pentacles

This August you will play the role of the student. You are diligent, practical, ambitious, and love to learn. You have found a new sense of security in these matters. You are secure and open to other people’s opinions. However, you may be shy, anxious, and neurotic. This card represents someone who has little resources but has the potential to make a lot of money. The future of your finances looks good. However, you may be too focused on material and money. To make matters worse, you don’t have the best relationship with money. This card warns against overspending and running up debt. A practical and non-emotional person may come into your life that has a say in your life or a certain situation in your life. *

September 2022- Queen of Wands

This month you are a muse for someone else in your life. You are loyal, loving, generous, and confident without giving up your independence and creativity. You must watch out for jealous and self-centered behavior. This month you may be surrounding yourself with a friendly individual who loves animals. This person may be you- or your mother or a mother figure or your romantic partner. Sometimes it just means you need to take on the traits of the Queen herself. Good or bad this may be a person who has a significant say in your current situation. I feel for some of you this may be a mother-in-law. This person will be more relevant in your life this month. This person is ambitious, she wants to climb the career ladder or do other great things. Usually, this individual finds themselves playing the role of the leader for having the ability to take charge. This person takes pride in being a good friend and ally. They will consider how their decisions affect others before making any moves, making sure everyone involved is being treated fairly. Enjoy time in nature as much as you can this month. If possible, go to the zoo or take a nature hike. Keeping fit and taking care of your health will be important to you. There may be a demanding and domineering woman standing between you and what you want. Watch out for controlling and oppressive behavior. If you find yourself micromanaging everyone around you- check yourself. You may be dealing with someone born on the Pisces-Aries cusp (March 19-24th). If you are born on this cusp, you likely need to be more like this Queen.*

October 2022- Strength

Inner-strength, courage, patience, tolerance, and compassion. You may be dealing with a Leo. You will use this inner power to overcome a difficult situation in your life. You must remain strong and vigilant. You may find yourself sick or in poor health. Healing will be possible if you push through treatment. Take care of your own needs- don’t worry about saying no to others. If you are a parent, you may be taking on most of the child care. I feel this is especially true with that Six of Cups mentioned above in April. You may feel like going to the gym, eating better, and taking on a more healthy lifestyle. You will triumph this month. Be firm, stick up for yourself. Stand tall against anyone who tries to knock you down. *

November 2022-Five of Wands

“Tests to prepare you for the future will be presented this month. Disagreements, confrontation, competition. There will be some sort of competition in your life. I don’t see this being a competition that will defeat you. This card indicates strife but does not reveal the outcome of the situation. When push comes to shove will you sink or swim, Aries? I see you swimming laps. If you're the victim of someone else’s jealousy or envy that just means you're doing something right. However, if you're the one hating others, this is immature behavior you need to work past. Now more than ever you will need to channel your emotions correctly.*

December 2022-Chariot-

Control. Willpower, focus. Determination. This is a Cancer card so you may be dealing with someone with this sign.

January 2023-Eight of Pentacles

Skill, craftsmanship, hard work, dedication. This is a card of mastery. You will soon be recognized as a master of your craft. This is often a card of apprenticeships. What you have previously done as a hobby is now something you're making cash on. You may even be able to make a full-time living at it, or at least close to it. You're leaving the rat race for greener pastures. You may find teaching your hobby to others is a lucrative career path. This may mean furthering your education or looking for jobs in that field. However, don’t become too dictatorial in how you go about things. Don’t waste time bragging to others. You may be dealing with a Virgo this month. *

February 2023-Ten of Swords

Misfortune, rock bottom, defeat, and crisis. Disaster may be coming to your doorstep this February. This is not a welcoming card, as it usually indicates destruction. All may be lost here, Aries. Drama, the conflict will reach its next stage or conclusion. Your relationship may end in the most terrible or cruel way. Something may happen that will strip you of your confidence. This card and abusive relationships can go hand in hand. Business, career, and money may make a turn for the worst. Once the dust settles you can start anew, but I feel for this month you're still going to be in the thick of it. You may be in ill health. Take care of yourself from physical and emotional pain. At the very least I feel some type of betrayal is going to occur and you won’t be able to resolve the issue.*

The theme of Year- Seven of Pentacles

This year it will feel like your waiting for your hard work to come to fruition. You are on pause, while you evaluate and reflect. You’re going to have to be patient as you go through this process. Not your strong suit, Aries. Be assured, the plans you make this year for your future will pay off. All you need is persistence, hard work, and faith. This is a card of study, and you may find yourself hitting the books and going back to school. I see this happening in January. This year you will stop and assess what you’re doing in life. Are you getting all you want from your career? Is your partner the one for you in the long term? These decisions you make will affect the rest of your life, so you better get thinking about it! Important months will be March, October, and December.

Year Card: The Fool October Card: Judgement

I’m getting a little tired of saying “this was a hard month” but, you know what? It was hard. But good, actually. 

I got a lot of big things done this month, most notably finally getting my driving licence. But on the smaller scale, I was really intentional about my mental health this month. 

In hindsight, the biggest change was not in what was happening (I literally ended October with another dental nightmare situation) but in how I turned around my response to the situation. 

I’ve been feeling the “call” to work with hero archetypes for a very long time now, probably about this time last year, if not way earlier. (I do some light pop culture paganism with Sailor Venus and Superman from time to time.) But I hadn’t really sorted out the hows and whys until this month. 

After my Moon month and feeling very cornered, stuck, and victimized, stepping into that heroic archetype was more than just empowering. It was life changing. I still struggle to make myself the hero of my inner narrative, definitely, but I am taking a much more active role in getting there than ever before. 

Again, I have to praise my morning pages practice. I made a point of being extra vigilant about doing them in October after the crazy of September, partially because it’s part of my mental health maintenance but also because it forces me to make time for myself. Not for work, not for family, not for the cat: for me. It takes about 45 minutes (sometimes longer if I’m not focusing, I admit it) over my first cup of tea, and it makes so much difference. Sitting down to three pages of whatever is on my mind, generally pretty mundane stuff. Each morning I am faced with my initial mindset of “ugh I feel awful/this thing is bothering me/woe is me/everything sucks/bed is so much warmer than not bed” and either get the complaining out or, increasingly more, manage to talk myself into actionable steps or a change of mindset. 

Let’s talk about the Tarot though because that’s what this blog is actually about supposedly:

The Haunted House Tarot shared the stage with the Smith-Waite Centennial Tarot-In-A-Tin for a lot of this month. I started with the Smith-Waite largely because I was still very overwhelmed after September between the dental stuff and being really short-staffed at work for awhile there. I actually used the Little White Book. For the Smith-Waite. And I liked it. 

I’m pretty pro-RWS in general, but I didn’t really get any meanings that stuck with me from using it early on in my reading career. To be honest, I read with the RWS and Aquarian Tarots for 14 years without having most meanings stick in my head. (Exception: my beloved, the Four of Swords.) It wasn’t until the Linestrider came out (which I bought for the art, with no intention of actually doing a lot of reading) that I finally felt the pieces fall into place, which really just goes to show how important the visual language of a deck can be. But, now that I have that foundation... going back to the LWB for the the Smith-Waite was fascinating. The Star card caught me particularly off-guard because it spoke about having hard/bad things happen to push you back towards your best path. It’s a hopeful card, but that doesn’t mean it comes without heartache and struggle-- which was a really critical concept in helping me grasp this Hero Mindset I was talking about earlier. 

The Haunted House Tarot was bought largely because of a post I saw here on tumblr (I’ll look back later and link it, probably) that intrigued me. I got it to use as my game-master deck for my Pathfinder RPG group. BUT: I fell in love with it as soon as it arrived. It’s a little really cheesy, but that actually works in its over dramatic favor. This deck is basically a gothic novel, which is perfect for both a narrative deck (each suit does tell a bit of a story) and for tarot over all. What is tarot if not a little bit... extra? One of the things about working with this deck that really got me was how often Raven, our white-dress clad heroine, slipped from the role of potential victim to a self-liberating badass. (At least in the cards that came up for me.) This was fantastic imagery for continuing working on this Hero Mindset as well. 

Anyways, It’s been really interesting. I’m finding that The Fool is very much a part of the hero energy I’ve been working with, which makes good narrative sense. Finding that ability and mindset for myself was my Judgement rebirth moment. It’s a thing.

Looking forward to November: I’m working with the Queen of Pentacles. Who, you know, is basically my aspirations in life. I just want a garden, a rabbit, and constant visual reminders that I am making progress.
