and yeah, it was sort of just another trashy TV show. But I liked the fashion and the girls. I liked seeing the overly hip outfits and bars they went to. There definitely wasn't enough diversity and all but one of them was from a pretty wealthy upbringing (and even the one that wasn't was at least middle class) but it was nice to see women dominating this business. There were only TWO successful men on this show, one being the dad of one of the girls and another who is portrayed pretty much as a skeezeball.
but of course it won't be picked up again. Maybe it didn't do well enough, there weren't enough views, it wasn't marketed well. I feel like part of it's because it was an ALL girl cast in an intelligent, competitive business with no physical fights over relationships or boys.
The one girl Chantal was a favorite because she was so over the top into the art world, wore avant garde outfits that aren't conventionally attractive and she said things that made corners of the internet scoff. There's a scene where this guy tries hitting on the group of girls in the bar and he touches their food, tries to tell them to scoot over so he can sit. After being ignored, the guy THROWS their food and luckily, the one girl reacts fast enough to throw the food back at him as he leaves. But they cut to the girl Chantal who says something like, "I HATE when unattractive men hit on me" and with lines like that, she was constantly touted as some awful, holier than thou hipster by blogs. Why?! She's a taken woman and I sure as hell don't like being hit on by scum who insist on sitting with me and then touch my expensive food, getting it on my expensive clothes.
One of my points being, I hate that women can't be particular or have any sort of negative attitude without being called out on their "AWFUL" personality. At one point she asks for French wine at a beautiful restaurant because she doesn't "like wines from Oregon" and again, that was something else I saw all over blogs about this show. I can't help but think if a man said that, he'd be hailed as a wine connoisseur who only wants the best, and why not? He has money, right? But it comes out of the mouth of a young woman and bam, what a pretentious bitch.
No idea where I'm going with this but I don't feel well, and I'm re-watching this show and that's how I feel
