I Had A Conversation With My Dad
I swear I could become a college professor- I'm going to try to cram our entire comversation into one text post, so I'll probably kill my fingers but it's worth it! It started out with the simple E=MC squared equation. I started to elaborate. E=MC squared is a simple equation. Energy is equal to velocity times mass squared. Now, let's give these concepts numbers. E is now equal to 8, velocity is 2, mass is 32, and momentum is 64. Now, 2*32 = 64. 64 squared is equal to 8. It kind of makes sense, right? Okay, so more on that. If 8*8 is 64 then energy times energy must be equal to momentum. Then we go further in. Einstein was able to calculate the weight of a planet by supposedly finding the brightness and distance. More on planets now. Some guy was able to calculate the mass/volume/size of earth with, supposedly, a stick and a string used as a sundial. We go on about planets. I said, people might pollute the planet to the point where human beings, and most other life forms, may die out. Then, I remembered about another thing. Being able to download a persons entire memory onto a single computer chip, inserting it into a robot, or any other type of technology, and creating a clone of that person. Same state of mind, same memories, same IQ. Then, my father brought up the TV series, Year Million. He said that what I was just talking about, was connected to one episode, in which a child was close to dying. A drone comes by, dowloads all of her memory onto a computer chip, and puts it into a device, creating an AI that is bascially that kid. It then enters the room in which the parents are in, and says "Hi daddy.". We ended the conversation there, but i kept track and it lasted for at least three hours. When we entered our home, he added something about an article he read. Stephen hawking (which in the article he says "I Am Convinced That Humans Need To Leave Earth") said that in about 500 years or so, humans need to leave this planet, and relocate. It's incredible to think that my concerns are the concerns that some of the gratest people have. Did I mention I'm a huge nerd? Yeah... It's surprising to see how smart I really can be...
There’s a Year Million marathon on National Geographic and one of the episodes discusses the Dyson sphere. I’ve always found the concept amazing but would it not block out sunlight?? Even if we, as a civilization, do reach that point on the Kardashev scale where we’re building these giant structures, we still need sunlight.

In 1907, when he was in his thirties, Bertrand Russel penned a gushing tribute to the glories of mathematics. "Rightly viewed", Russel wrote, mathematics "possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty - a beauty cold and austere, like that of sculpture, without appeal to any part of our weaker nature, without the gorgeous trappings of painting or music, yet sublimely pure, and capable of a stern perfection such as only the greatest art can show". These lines, which play up the transcendent image of mathematics, are often quoted in mathematical popularizations. What one seldom encounters in such books, however, is the rather different view that Russel expressed in his late eighties, when he dismissed his youthful rhapsodizing as "largely nonsense". Mathematics, the aged Russel writes, "has ceased to seem to me non-human in its subject matter. I have come to believe, though very reluctantly, that it consists of tautologies. I fear that, to a mind of sufficient intellectual power, the whole of mathematics would appear trivial, as trivial as the statement that a four-footed animal is an animal." So, in the course of his life, Russel underwent an evolution in his thinking about mathematics. I think our civilization will have undergone a similar evolution by the Year Million. [...] Our descendants will view mathematics merely as an elaborate network of tautologies, of strictly local import, that has proved expeditious as a bookkeeping scheme for coping with the world. [...] Mathematicians like Hardy acknowledged two motives. One is the sheer pleasure of doing mathematics. The other is the sense that mathematicians are like astronomers peering out at a Platonic cosmos of numbers, a cosmos that transcends human culture and any other civilizations there might be, either now or in the future. Hardy adds, "317 is a prime, not because we think so, or because our minds are shaped in one way rather than another, but because it is so, because mathematical reality is built that way". Alain Connes, a French mathematician who is widely deemed to be a leading candidate to prove the Riemann hypothesis, is also unabashed in his Platonism. "For me", Connes has said, "the sequence of prime numbers ... has a reality that is far more permanent than the physical reality surrounding us." But will this remain true in the Year Million? Prime numbers will probably retain this transhuman reputation only until we come to understand them more completely. Then we will see that, like the rest of mathematics (or like religion, for that matter), they are man-made, a terrestrial artifact. [...] My prediction, then, is that long before the Year Million, mathematicians will awaken from their collective Platonist dream. No one will give a thought to beaming prime numbers throughout the cosmos. Our descendants will dismiss them in the manner of the hero of Bertrand Russel's story, "The Mathematician's Nightmare", by saying, "Avaunt! You are only Symbolic Conveniences!"

Five hundred million years ago brains appeared, and then doubled in size every thirty million years. About two million years ago, protohumans began to double in number every quarter million years, until ten thousand years ago, when with the advent of farming, our population began to double each millennium. With the Industrial Revolution about two hundred years ago, we began to double our economy every fifteen years. Statistics of prior transitions suggest that within this century we might somehow transition again, and then double (incredible as it might seem) every two weeks.
