having previously been an avid lurker, i've thoroughly enjoyed making friends with some truly inspiring people in this fandom. without a doubt this has been a bright, bright spot on my year and im so grateful! you're all so wonderful and i love you and hope you know that.
@kk1smet has been a source of joy and inspiration from the start. my first ever fic (Got Me Started) was inspired by their prompts, and then my first ever fest fic (Mirror, Me) was sparked by their stunning art. THEN they honoured me with my first ever fanart for my fic (To Be Punished). im so blessed to call them a friend!
i can draw a straight line from every single word i've posted on ao3 to the fanworks that inspired them. ive read/seen sooo many wonderful things this year and it's impossible for me to name them all. ive picked out a few below the cut that are directly responsible for lighting a fire in me so strong i had to write that shit down. if you haven't already, please give some of these fanworks a go, they're all top notch.
+ @yiiiiiiiikes25 wrote cruising altitude from the raven cycle fandom and it fucking rocked my world. i am telling you right now, i have never read anything like it. it is an absolute masterclass in craft. every single word is thoughtful and precise. i thought i knew what voice and diction and pov were and how they can be used to tell the story you want to tell but really, i had no idea. yikes has this way of pulling you so deeply into a characters pov that its honestly disorienting to come out of. i fell in love with these random boys from a fandom i'd never read nor cared for, and i keep going back. i don't care if you are drarry monogamous, if you want to experience some of the best this dumb hobby we're all addicted to has to offer, i implore you, go read cruising altitude. go. GO. and then go read the rest of yikes catalogue bc ofc they also do drarry impeccably.
+ @garagepaperback i read this heaven of mud and haven't been the same since. then i read javelin and ive been permanently altered once more. not only is garage directly responsible for exes becoming my all time favourite trope, but the way they explore the deep, long-lasting effects of trauma (in these and all your other fics) is second to none! its incredibly beautiful and impactful and has left such as lasting impression on me. and all that is wrapped up in some of the most poetic and stunning prose ive ever had the pleasure of reading?!?!! get out of here (but also please dont i value our friendship dearly)
+ @mintawasalreadytaken i read All I Want For Kwithmath and then i went on a tear and read most of their Dead Drarry: Do Not Eat series and honestly had the BEST TIME. they write some of the greatest toxic, kinky, fucked up drarry, but somehow make it so i really fucking care about these two idiots, and want the best for them?? minta is so good at hooking you right from the top and then pounding those hooks in deeper and deeper. the end result is that i now cradle toxic drarry in my hands and wont ever let them go (and sometimes I even try writing them)
+ @eleadore's as the plant that never blooms and everything i could ever want helped to shape and sand the edges of the drarry dynamic i love and want to write! el writes some of the hottest, most rewarding, prickly to tender drarry out here. pls run don't walk.
+ @faiell and i shared our drarry fic debuts on ao3 this year and their fic, Purple, absolutely blew me out of the water. it's expertly written, hot as fuck, contains the shifting power dynamics that are at the core of what i love about drarry, and has SUCH A satisfying ending. i was grinning and cackling for about 3-4 business days after reading. (also peep their tumblr to scream at their art) fai, i've said it before and ill say it again, i'll follow you into fire, i really will.
this post is getting far far too long but i cannot end it without also mentioning some (not exhaustive) of the STAND OUT creators i've had the pleasure of experiencing for the first time this year. i'll include a rec (all drarry unless stated otherwise) + whatever unhinged drivel i put in my bookmark for each but it goes without saying that the talent runs deep and id rec multiple creations from these guys if this post wasn't already novel length.

Je suis un peu en retard mais faites comme si qu'on était le 31 décembre et pas le 2 janvier ?
J'ai décidé de faire un petit wrap de mon année en suivant la trend sur twitter et parce qu'une de mes amies m'a susurré l'idée à l'oreille... Et je suis plutôt fier, autant du résultat que de tous les trucs que j'ai fait cette année.
J'avais pour objectif de me remettre dans le bain de la lecture et je pense que le challenge est réussi ? J'ai réussi à lire environ 28 bouquins cette année (mon objectif était de 20, je flex mais je suis un peu un champion) et ça faisait très longtemps que j'avais pas passé le nez plongé entre des pages pendant autant de temps.
C'est aussi cette année que j'ai découvert que j'adorais Hollow Knight et que j'ai eu une hyperfixation dessus (j'ai toujours pas fini Silksong mais je prends mon temps pour faire le + de trucs possibles oui). En tout cas je me suis découvert tryhardeur pro, parce que maël d'avant aurait jamais soupçonné recommencer autant de fois des boss sans abandonner (et je vous parle pas des parkour). J'ai aussi eu un énorme coup de coeur pour le jeu Nine Sols qui a un lore tellement étendu qu'il m'a retourné le cerveau et pour Jusant qui est juste d'une beauté et d'un calme incroyable (les musiques.... je les écoute en boucle pour RP).
En dehors de tout ça... Je crois que globalement, 2025 a pas été mon année la plus heureuse sur bien des points mais j'ai découvert des gens incroyables et me suis rapproché d'autres amis que j'avais un peu trop tenu à distance (parce que je suis un gros loser niveau social).
J'ai espoir que 2026 sera plus clément avec moi, maintenant que je suis aussi bien entouré et je vous souhaite à toustes une très belle année.

Before this year I usually started a lot of projects, but finished two to three per year, Then I found the OP Collabs.
I found them when the Nami collab was in it’s beginning. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to join, not sure if I would be able to finish a piece that I was happy with. But I decided to try. It took a while, but it felt ok, so I thought, maybe I can do a couple? But then it just snowballed away from me and ended up being 15! I don’t think I’ve ever started 15 drawings in one year.
It had been fun, and I thought that I would start drawing more for myself, but then the summer came, and it didn’t really work.
The Zoro collab started, I’m not good at drawing guys, maybe done one or two finished drawings my whole life, so I wasn’t sure if I should even join.
I decided to go easy, and started with a genderbent Zoro. Then I tried to draw the same ice cream that I did for Nami, then I did a couple of drawing of him as a guy, it took more time then Nami, but it turned out good.
I also did a Sunny-Mascot, and tried a new type of brush to make a fluffy plushy. I ended up doing him in the Sunny-mascot, but it didn’t turn out well so I kept it to myself, focusing on showing off the art I was actually proud off.
While the Zoro collab was going on, the Ace collab started. I was really excited to get a specific outfit, only to write the wrong number and get one I didn’t like. I ended up choosing a new, and this one took time. I had to try to draw fire (which I have tried on multiple occasions and always failed). And because it was as the same time as Zoro, I never prioritized it.
When the pinchhitting came I decided to help in a more simple way, I did some Low Quality Ace as a kid, a little keyring-thingy-in a raincoat, and ended it with all three ASL brothers.
While this was going on the Robin collab had started, and I wanted to draw her the most. I thought that if there were someone I could rival all the Namis with, it would be Nico Robin.
There have been a speedrun almost every other week, if not more, and I’ve participated in every. When I started the collabs I did one outfit in 2 weeks, now I did them in 2 days. Though that made me take extra time on the ones that don’t have a time limit.
The Nico Robin collab isn’t over yet though, one month left and I’m gonna do as many as possible, I have 3 left to have done as many as Nami, and my goal is 17 because it’s a good number. Well see.
I also did a mini for the Charlotte Family Collab, Broyé as a Goth!
I did two more minis; one for Nami, where I dressed her as Carola when she won Eurovision with “fångad av en stormvind” and one of Robin Where she was dressed as Lucia for the holiday Santa Lucia.
So, this year, I’ve done 43 (!!) outfits.
3 were minis.
15 were Namis
7 were Zoros
6 were Ace
12 (so far) is Robins.

I’m looking forward to next year, there are some collabs I want to join, and some I will probably skip.
My New Years goal is to draw more for myself, work on my OCs and try different art styles.
I’m also hoping to join the Art Fight this year. It’s such a fun concept, and last year I had just started with all this, so I wasn’t ready. My plan is to finish at least one OC before July so I can join.
This year has been full of writing and new friends. Thank you so much for everything, MOTA fandom, you helped me get back into writing and showed me how wonderful our little community can be. You're the best.
