Yecheon Archery Center

Learn to shoot arrows like Katniss at the Yecheon Run Archery Center! Whether you are a beginner or advanced, there is a bow for you! You can pick a package that would suit your skills the most.

All the equipment and basic training are provided! They also offer programs for children (at a range nearby.) 

Explore a variety of packages and make reservation online here. Important: I suggest you call and double check the reservation! We were booking for a group and there was some confusion in the end. So do make sure to double check!

Yucheon: Sweet Potatoes and Going to Space

We stayed overnight at the Yucheon Village, had a wonderful traditional Korean breakfast with a gorgeous view of the lake and then headed off to the Sweet Potato Farm Experience.

SWEET POTATO FARM EXPERIENCE

This is a wonderful way to experience rural traveling and meet the locals! It was my first time at a potato farm and 

You will get a kit with everything you need: the tools, the gloves, and a plastic bag to carry your harvest home! We also got a quick introduction and a demonstration. It was dynamic and fun! Living in the city and getting your veggies from the supermarket, you forget how much labor goes into planting, growing, and harvesting produce. And living in a city like Seoul, you rarely (never?) get to spend the afternoon digging in the soil. The whole experience was a lot of fun and actually felt very stress-relieving!

So. if you ever get tired of the concrete jungle (we all do at times, don’t we?) come check out villages and farms in Korea!

An unexpected highlight of our trip was meeting the local grannies. We got to meet two ladies who live near the farm. They were very welcoming, open and generous and, I think, excited about meeting foreigners. They shared chestnuts, melons, and watermelons with us and we got to sit down and chat with them. How awesome is that?

WHERE TO EAT

We had lunch at a popular local place in the center of Yecheon. The reviews were great and the food did not disappoint. The place is simple and has a rural charm to it. The meat is grilled outside by the patron. Delicious!

백만불 식당 | Map

Korean BBQ is magic! We opted for dwaeji galbi (Korean-style pork ribs) for dinner. The meat was delicious! And all the side dishes were wonderful! Gotta love the unlimited refills in Korea, right?

This restaurant is famous among the locals and if you find yourself in Yecheon craving meat, I recommend you to check it out!

ACCOMMODATION

Yucheon County Multipurpose Center offers affordable accommodation options for tourists. Stay in comfortable rooms and wake up to a beautiful lake view!

Reservations can be made online and the website offers photos and detailed room type information (50000-70000 KRW). Each room comes with a kitchen unit (electric stovetop, refrigerator) and a private bathroom with a shower. The rooms are located on the second floor and are clean and bright. There are also separate bathrooms and showers on the floor, which is very comfortable if you are traveling with a big group of people.

NOTE: The rooms are not very big and personally I would advise groups of 2-3 people for the Snail room and 3-4 people for the Grasshopper room.

Breakfast is available for groups of over 20 people, but we suggest you inquire about breakfast options when making a reservation. When traveling to rural areas in Korea, it is always a good idea to confirm beforehand!

Yecheon Astro-Space Center

Have you ever dreamt of being an astronaut? Well, if you haven’t secured your place at SpaceX yet, but are eager to get a space camp experience, come to check out the Yecheon Astro-Space Center! 🚀✨💫

Study the celestial bodies at the Yecheon Star Observatory, undergo astronaut training simulations at the Yecheon Space Experience Center, and learn about the history of astronomy and the heavens at the Astronomy Park.

We decided to do the most comprehensive Package A: 3 simulator experiences + 4D movie and it was totally worth it! This is how it went:

Wanna bounce around in the Moon Walk Chair? 🌔✌️

Did you know that on the Moon your weight is 16.5% what you would experience on Earth? 🌏 This contraption imitates your weight in the atmosphere of the Moon. Basically, I have never jumped that high with so little effort! It was a lot of fun and unless you are afraid of heights, there’s nothing to worry about! Kids would love this too! (There’s a height requirement, so big kids, not babies.)

Would you survive the multi-axis trainer?👩‍🚀🚀

The chair randomly spins and twirls 360 degrees in multiple axes and the experience is meant to simulate what an uncontrolled spin in microgravity would feel like.

I get car sick easily, but it wasn’t that bad! A bit disorienting, but not nauseating! My advice, lock your gaze on an unmoving object (your feet, for example) - don’t try to look around! I believe in an actual test you would be asked to move your head up and down. You can try that if you feel daring! Let me know how it goes!

  G-force Simulator

This centrifuge re-creates the G-force loads experienced by the astronauts during the spaceflight. Let me tell you, it does not feel nice. At all. I went into this small cabin with two of my friends, we got in the chairs, strapped in and the moment the machinery went into motion I knew that it was not going to be pleasant. Not horrible, but definitely the most sickness-inducing experience out of the three. All my friends agreed with that. But it was curious and challenging and I am proud I got through it!

Worth mentioning: The suits were the highlight! Loved them and they made the photos that we took that much better! Wearing them is optional, but I totally recommend you to do it! (You can just put them on whatever it is you are wearing that day.)
