when i was in southern california last summer i went to a wednesday service at an episcopal church there and before the service started a mom came in with her little boy and said "he likes to go in churches and he's looking for jesus" well the kid was confused because they were catholic and he was used to seeing a crucifix, but many episcopal churches including this one have a bare cross. so when the priest came in she said something wise to him about how we don't have him on the cross but jesus is in all of us so we see him in each other and so forth, and she also showed him a new icon they had just gotten with an african american jesus, which turned out to be the first time the kid had seen a non white depiction of him. it was all very cute and sweet.
so anyway today my priest came in the sanctuary after we finished decorating for the christmas services and said "we should put santa on the cross"
