Gem: Yellow Moonstone
Nickname: Mellow or Mel
Alignment: Homeworld (was abandoned on Earth after the war)
Personality: Shy, skittish, prone to anxiety to the slightest inconvenience, good-natured, cowardly
Purpose: Moonstones, rare aristocratic gems from Homeworld, are held in high regard for their abilities to strengthen the mind and stability of any gem they come across. (Cat’s Eye Moonstone can strengthen the resolve and determination of a gem, Grey Moonstone can bring out a gem’s potential and strengths, Peach and Yellow Moonstones can calm the angered and the anxious, etc.) All Moonstones carry around a special orb that is able to strengthen their own abilities and give them a greater effect on whichever gem they are treating. During the war, some Moonstones were sent to Earth in order to boost the morale of Homeworld’s armies who were being beaten down by the rebel army.
Mellow was a gem sent to Earth to do as mentioned, serving Homeworld gems to the best of her abilities. As a Yellow Moonstone, Mel had the ability to sooth the anxieties of others, yet was unable to treat her own anxieties. Mellow was often so riddled with her own anxiety that doing her job became difficult as she was often too scared to leave the comfort of her own room. Whenever her anxiety grew too much, her orb would grow spikes as a defense mechanism. If she ever found herself in a fight, Mel’s spiked orb could turn into a flail for her to use in combat.
History: Yellow Moonstone had lived on Homeworld for as long as she could remember, serving beside her fellow Moonstones in a peaceful and stable life. She had never even thought that life could be any other way until the war started, and as she spent more and more time on Earth, the more Mellow began to wonder if she should join the rebellion. However, she never had the courage to do so until she fell in love a Hematite from the rebellious Crystal Gems, and met a Topaz who dreamed of joining the rebel army’s cause.
The three gems had made plans to join the rebellion, but they never came to fruition. Hematite disappeared during the last battle and was presumed shattered which broke Mel’s heart and killed any courage and determination she had to leave. Homeworld’s armies fled, and in all the panic and fear, Mellow and her Topaz were left behind. Mel retreated into her gem and Topaz bubbled her to protect his friend, leaving him to become twisted and deformed from what the Diamonds had done.
Present: Moonstone, who managed to get out of her bubble, now wonders Earth with her corrupted Topaz who had been guarding her protectively for so long, searching for Hematite and a way to help Topaz return to his normal self again.
