yellow hummed as they sat in the peppermintstick cafe’s booth, sipping their vanilla flavored shake as they took in the scenery. the fifties vibes of the cadillac’s and betty boop pictures made them smile a bit, maybe this was why they kept gettin called old despite not even being thirty yet but one can’t deny the aesthetic is nostalgic even to someone not born in that time.
another thing that brought them a smile was the server that got recently hired a month back. a cute orange bob haired kid that smelled of recently graduated college as they watched them serving the extensive lunch hour cast of customers. the small environment of the cafe though seemed to be the one downfall as the kid kept bumping into tables or tripping to keep from bumping into people.
dipping their fry into some fry sauce they ordered yellow watched with some concern as it seemed the kid was going from zero to fifty on the anxiety scale the more busier and fussier the customers were. as they moved to look away to check their phone’s notifications a crash and yell of “HEY!” caught their ears as they looked a booth over from their own to find the waiter on the floor, picking up some shattered plates as the customer infront of them in their booth was getting on their ass more then a car on a highway.
“i-i-im sorry im sorry im sorry-”
“unprofessional lil, quit panicking for a sec!”
they jumped, giving more rambled apologies as yellow saw their eyes prickling. yeah no this was stopping. now. they got up, moving over to where they were at as they glared at the customer.
“yknow,” they started as they knealed down. “i don’t know how to tell you this,” they picked up some smaller pieces of plate. “but yelling at someone to stop panicking, is unfortunately for you specifically, not going to stop them from panicking.” they talked as they picked up the pieces, putting them on the serving platter they had them on before handing it back to the sniffling server with wide eyes.
“so how bout ya just lay off and be appreciative.” they stated glaring at the customer and waving the kid off with a light smile before walking back to their booth blocking out the customer’s curses at them. five minutes later the asshole left as the server came back to clean the booth.
they looked at eachother, yellow waved as they walked up to them mumbling a small “ ‘m sorry.” as yellow quirked a brow. “did your boss tell ya to?” they shook their head. “then ya got nothin to be sorry for.” they replied as they patted a seat, the worker looked almost like a dog not knowing if they were sure before sitting on the opposite end. yellow pushed the smoothie and fries to them.
“dunno if your allergic to either but-” they paused watching them grab two fries, dunk them in the half melted smoothie and eat them with a muffled sigh of contentment as yellow chuckled out of fondness. “th...thank you.” they mumbled as yellow nodded. “sure thing uh...” they paused looking at their name tag, they didn’t come here often and forgot to always look at the name, only getting the Z out of it any other time. “z...zac-”
“zirc-” they paused, gulping lightly as they shuffled in their seat. “....y...you can...c-call...call me...uhm...zircon. if you wan’t to.” they mumbled the last part half heartedly as yellow nodded. “aight zircy.” they replied, chuckling as the red head’s face heated up over their freckled cheeks. “wanna join me for lunch sometime?”
“i...got...work though.”
“how bout a day off?” they asked as zirc’s eyes brightened. “....i...i have Wednesday's off.”
“Wednesday it is.” they replied, taking a fry and dipping it in the smoothie before taking a bite as the other got up to continue their shift.

working the handle yellow grumbled as they slammed on the pedals, but nothing moved as they did. “damn, thing, advertises itself as this best car to get through anything, but a damn hondai sanata could get through this shit.” they stated in annoyance, sighing it out as they looked to zircon who was busying themself with the paper bag to their mouth.
they patted them lightly getting a jump in response, a bonk to the car’s surface and a weak “ow.” in response. “dude, it’s okay.” they chuckled petting them as they calmed more. “the tow guy’s gonna get here soon, don’t worry.”
“h-h-how ss-s-oon?” ah geez they thought, panic attack, worst time for it to come up but not like they’d say that so bluntly as they replied. “twenty minutes, with the snow goin though...might i mean...”
“d-dddoo-onnn’t hh-ho-olhd back.”
“twenty to...half an hour at best?” the ginger haired other groaned in fear as yellow moved to hug em lightly. “hey hey it’s okay, it’s okay, good ol ellow’s still here right?” they whined lightly but nodded as yellow unbuckled their seatbelt while holding the other into a side hug. “come on. lets go to the backseat.”
pouting zircon moved to take their own off, one at a time going to the back seat as yellow held them closer as their breathing calmed more. “feels...warmer back here.”
“well yeah we’re cuddling.” both chuckled as yellow petted their hair lightly, while zircon busied themself with their red scarf in their hands, letting the storm continue on, yet a snowstorm never felt as violent as a usual rainstorm. it felt...pleasant.
seeing the inside of the car go brighter yellow moved to look behind the seats to the window of their trunk, finding the large lights of the pickup there as they looked to zircon looking up at em.
“see? havin me around gets us through anything.” they stated half jokingly as zircon smiled brighter then the lights.
And absolutely optional because I had a dumb hc for them... Person A surprising Person B by showing up at their door for Yellow and Zircon maaaaaybe? But still I know you get them A LOT so just ignore it if you want to haha

they could feel their soar eyes tearing up again, damn anxiety getting to them as they got up, pacing around and watching their phone until a knock on the apartment’s door came up.
they paused, dashing to it and opening it to find the blonde, bags under their eyes as they leaned in hugging the curly haired younger. “wh-but-”
“sorry...made ya worry huh?” they asked, smiling to them as zircon held onto them tightly. “i’m...f..fi...fine.” they hiccuped out, tears of relief streaming down as yellow petted their head. “stop trying to be strong for this, it’s okay if your not.”
“it’s...no one else...was replying. i couldn’t-” they hid their face into yellow’s jacket as they held em back. “i’m alright...walking here...kinda helped. i should do it often probably.” they replied. “...wanna pop some popcorn? watch some documentary?” they sniffed and nodded lightly in response. “if...you want to. yeah.”

“mm.” they mumbled out as zircon wiggled a little, hesitant in the diamond’s hold. “are you...trying to cuddle with me?”

slowly opening their eyes zircon looked to see the rocky interior they were looking at. as their senses came back they felt the similar rocky ground and something wrapped around them; wet and...scaly?
looking down they found something indeed that was both wrapped around them. moving a little they gasped at it curling tighter around them. “awww ya wake up.” they heard, looking up they found attatched to this newly identifiable tale was someone human looking; blonde short hair, golden eyes and a tattered top that looked down in a smirk.
“ah...aaaaaaahhhh!” zircon replied in their light scream, the other cocking their head. “your staring like ya’ve never seen a lamia before.” they stated chuckling as the ginger haired younger wiggled more. “whwhat’re you gonna ddo to me?!”
“mean...maybe eat ya? dunno i didn’t think that through.” they stated nonchalantly as zircon whimpered louder. “pplease let me goooo!”
staring down at them they chuckled lightly. “but ya so cute and squishy i wanna keep huggin ya.” they replied as zircon gave unintentionally bigger puppy dog eyes, causing the blonde to loosen their tail’s grip. “alriiiight ya twisted my arm, er tail i guess ehehe.” they chuckled as zircon moved to sit on their knees. “wwhy am i here??”
“ya looked like ya were drowning, so i brought ya to my cave.” they stated, opening their arms to show the cave. looking around zircon found the entrance, which was the ocean. “wwow. tthank you.” they stuttered. “and yyeah, next time ii really shouldn’t try standing on a boat.”
