It was technically after visiting hours, but Kaito wasn’t inconvenienced by such trivialities. He’d borrowed a set of scrubs and applied a simple mask to mimic one of the nurses he’d seen on duty. It likely wouldn’t fool his detective for long, but it was enough to let Kaito pass through the halls to his detective’s room unhindered.
Kaito bustled into the room and prodded his detective awake. He was forced to lean away as his detective jolted upright in alarm, hastily supporting him as he hissed in pain.
“Careful, Meitantei,” Kaito chided.
“Wha—KID?”
“The one and only.”
“You’re technically not the only one,” his detective countered. “I know you aren’t old enough to have been the original Kaitou KID.”
Kaito huffed, “What did you do to manage to land yourself in the hospital this time, Meitantei?”
Kudo grimaced, “The killer pulled a knife after hearing my deductions, I knocked it out of their hand but they grabbed another before I could get out of reach.”
“After you left your police friends behind again?” Kaito finished pointedly.
“…Yes,” Kudo admitted.
“You,” Kaito informed his detective, “are an idiot.”
Instead of the expected indignation and defensiveness, he got a raised eyebrow in response. “So I’ve been told.”
“And you didn’t think that maybe that was a sign for you to do something differently?”
“Not at all,” his detective replied.
…Sometimes Kaito wondered why he decided he likes this idiot.
SI!Kagami is savage. Went right for the color guards' throats there. The way the rest of the Seirin reacts to his antics--or lack thereof, during Momoi's visit--is making me curious. Is he becoming Seirin's very own Weird Basketball Cryptid? Has he been Seirin's Weird Basketball Cryptid the whole time and not realized?
Like, there's a difference between being a Clown and being a Weird Basketball Cryptid, and that difference is that cryptids mind their own business and yet somehow still end up with legends being spread about them. SI!Kagami's efforts to stay in his own line and avoid Clownish behavior may simply lead to him becoming a cryptid faster…
(combining your asks)
the color guard make it so easy tho lmao
seirin was pretty distracted with uh. the assets, let's say.
(i wanna quickly throw in here that i think momoi is a cool character, she just comes off bad because of how she's written and it's not her fault. also, think of it like this. in the same episode, touou's team are debating where both aomine and momoi disappeared to. they get annoyed and resigned at aomine ditching, but imayoshi just says "momoi's doing her job :)" at her little field trip. WHAT KINDA FUCK SHIT CIRCUS MAKES A TEENAGE GIRL THINK SHE NEEDS TO DO WHAT SHE DOES TO BE USEFUL TO HER BASKETBALL TEAM AND MAKES HER THINK IT'S OKAY AND NORMAL I -)
si!kagami wasn't really feeling up to antics. ^basically a contained version of this. it wasn't the time and place for the antics. they'll be back.
and also from the end of the okonomiyaki dinner (aka beginning of ch 9) is when they realize he is The Seirin Cryptid. Not kuroko, bless his little clown heart tho. si!kagami, for as Normal™ as he acts, is a fucking weirdo (because i'm a fucking weirdo and no one irl gives me a break about it). his 'normalness' makes him even weirder. the fact he doesn't give a shit about his peers' opinions, in the time of every teen's life where they'll die if they get judged, is Weird. but he's also not like a 'stereotypical' weird kid. because he's ultimately harmless, it turns into cryptid energy.
I can't put into words how much I love SI!Kagami. So mean and yet also just here to have fun. Sadistic bastard who is also the only one who acknowledges that this is just high school basketball. Doing his very best to keep his head on straight even though he is at the clown show, surrounded by clowns, wearing clown shoes. Compliments aside, would he and Takao get along if they actually talked? They seem to have similar senses of humour. And both think Midorima is impressive (Takao much more so).
warms si!kagami's heart (you get a 🫰 instead of an 👌)
on takao - that's good judgment. he's been nice and casual for the moment that si!kagami interacted w him, so no dislike or tension on si!kagami's part
any future interactions depends on how interhigh goes (yknow. with the training camp thing, possibly)
Do you have more rants about Revya? I crave Soul Nomad meta.
omg... always
how about how the game tricks you into thinking revya is a self insert protagonist for the player through “choice” in the first playthrough. i’ve never run this by anyone before so please feel free to disagree. and sorry if none of this makes sense! i’m vaguely referencing my several months old notes and typing this out in a fevered haze of Soul Nomad Brain
okay so every line of dialogue that revya has, the player has to like click it right? it’s different than just reading through any other character’s dialogue, like how you just press a button through danette speaking or anyone else. most games do this with multiple speaking options, or choices that lead to different options, etc.
usually these options lead to different character answers, etc.... u get the idea. in the first normal playthrough, all of revya’s dialogue is like this, even if it’s just One line you still choose it.
later on you get more variety, like when gig asks you what you should name your empire in the demon path, but doing this in the first playthrough WITHOUT ANY CHOICES still leads the player to think hey this is my character, this is Me in the game, i get to decide what kind of person revya is. which, okay, not completely wrong, you get different endings depending on who you hang out with the most, you can do that thing with other npcs like hold hands or fight. the player makes these choices and connects themself to the world of the game. they imprint upon the player character.
this is all to distract from how revya is his own character with his own personality. (i use he/his here because the playthrough i’m referencing used male revya, female revya would definitely have differences in the game.) you can choose revya’s name and gender, and “choosing” his dialogue furthers the player’s perception of revya as a self insert protag, even if there’s no actual Choice. this is most notably like link probably, or maybe a pokemon trainer. i mention these because i personally referenced them when first interacting with soul nomad and thinking about revya. the way other characters address revya as a quiet passive character despite the amount of dialogue he actually has works towards this as well. (of course he talks way less than say danette or gig, but for a “silent” protagonist? it’s not quite up to gaming standards.) revya is seen as an extension of the player, not someone like gig who is very separate from the player with his own thoughts and actions. i’m not saying this COMPLETELY 100% undermines revya’s own personality, but you don’t really think about it as much when lady layna dies and revya just says “no i’m okay” despite this being a very traumatic event. one might never think about revya’s motivations and thoughts because... why would you? it’s just you imprinting on the protagonist. what motivations does link have beyond “save the world?” what does the pokemon trainer think besides “care for my pokemon?” and so you never think about the actual lore and reasonings why revya of all people could become the devourlord besides “gig influenced him to” which is just the tip of the iceberg.
what personality does revya actually HAVE one might wonder. and I’M GLAD YOU ASKED because revya is really STRANGE if you try to view him as a normal, moral protagonist light. sure he cares for his friends, is willing to help people even if it means setting aside his main quest and inconveniencing him, will go off with the person he really cares about and basically leave his old life behind for them, is the biggest influence in rehabilitating a mass murderer... you get the idea. you wouldn’t think this kid could turn into the devourlord. HOWEVER he also does care about his best friend, THE GENOCIDAL GOD OF DEATH?? does NOBODY think that’s weird? whenever gig is like “LET’S KILL EVERYONE AND DESTROY THE WORLD” revya’s just like “no we’re not doing that.” no reaction of disgust. he’s not repulsed. when gig disappears, he seems actually concerned/worried. it’s not a “gig’s gone so i don’t have the power to save the world,” it’s “gig’s gone and i’m going to react with excitement and genuine joy when he returns.” he also has the opportunity to just give up control of his body without a fight (although it doesn’t work out he still has the option to be okay with it). do normal righteous protagonists... just DO that??? normal path revya is not 100% good, or at least the Good compared to demon path’s Evil Revya. he’s more complicated than first view shows.
THE THING IS: one might not think about all that if they’re not focusing on what revya is doing/saying. i’ve taken all this from the “choices” the player makes in the first playthrough.
i’ve never seen anyone talk about this, and i’m not sure if it’s just because i don’t look hard enough or maybe i’m a little too obsessed with revya specifically?? maybe i’m reading too hard into it??? but my take is that just nobody thinks about it because it slips under the radar. gig does evil stuff all the time. who cares if revya doesn’t mind that lady layna died when their close friend betrayed them. he’s just a normal self insert heroic mime protagonist right!!! ARGH
Help, I can't find your Guilty Gear posts! Is there a tag I can sort through, or have you completely abandoned that fandom? If you have... well, I'll be sad, but you seem to be enjoying yourself in Kurobasu, at least.
Hey there and welcome. ^^
I’m afraid I haven’t posted Guilty Gear stuff on this blog before because I didn’t think anyone would be interested in reading about it. (The fandom’s so obscure XD) Please do feel free to send me asks or submit requests about it when I’m doing character memes, though. I’ll answer to the best of my ability!

Eat soft foods, like beans or bananas. Ice cream is also a good bet, since it'll numb your mouth. Generally, I'd recommend trying to drink more instead of eating.
I'll take note! I guess I can really expend those Starbucks giftcards now.
