What are sopa de fideo, two hands, folie à deux, etc ?
folie a deux started as a tag w @rozaceous for anything we collaborate on and in-joke of AUs and other brainworms from discord. it's a mutual "yes and---" game, thus "a madness of two"
our shorthand for referring to our writing is called an "oat" (from that meme of the person handfeeding the horse and the horse going "you saved my life" or whatever, feeding each other oats to keep enriched)
whenever we just dick around in chat abt ideas, we can it "noodling" and noodle soup is comforting bc soup. so comforting, self-indulgent, pure id ideas
we eventually roped @sunshinerotting in bc they are an A+ reader w long essays about our fics, so we started giving bonus unposted snippets and they started instigating more brainworms in return. they have joined the noodle soup "sopa de fideo" but also i do have two hands for both of them to hold

another sad thing abt drake being a petty loser irl is that he's gotten in the way of letting that petty loser attitude shine in music as a character
like i listen to jojo's version of marvins room for a different vibe than drake's version. one isn't better than the other. jojo's version is a type of girl down bad that drake can't capture, there's frustration and an active jealousy. it's seething on the inside
and likewise the stream of consciousness cadence of the original bridge is so fucking pathetic, forced nonchalance that's turning into a real apathy for his situation, only a dude like drake could get there
Something I don’t think I’ll ever be over, is how Yao and Ilyukhina died for nothing, and yet at the same time, *didn’t.*
Because they both volunteered to board the Project Hail Mary to search for a solution to astrophage, they were both willing to die in order to give the rest of humanity a fighting chance of making it.
And they both died before ever even seeing Tau Ceti.
And it feels so unfair, because they went all that way for nothing, they died without even getting to try and save the people they were going for.
So they died for nothing.
Except they DIDN’T.
Because their deaths saved Grace, and in turn, saved Rocky and Erid. Without the surplus coma slurry, Grace wouldn’t have been able to go back and take Rocky home, and Erid would have had a much harder time with astrophage.
This isn’t particularly coherent, but I can’t stop thinking about these two people who were willing to die for their world, died before getting the chance to fight for their species survival, and yet their deaths meant the sole survivor of their crew could save both their home, and another.
There’s just something so devastating about that to me.
I mean, the whole concept is so devastating but yes! The events of Project Hail Mary COULD NOT have occurred like they did if the whole crew survived. Assuming they still met Rocky, they probably could have developed a solution to the astrophage problem similarly, but they would not have gone home.
They would have died in space as originally intended (they would not have enough food for a journey to Earth or Erid) and the taumoeba would have eaten Rocky’s fuel leaving him to die in space as well and Erid wouldn’t have been saved.
This is why I have trouble with the "everybody lives” fics, cause even though it is a nice idea, as unfortunate as it is, the only reason PHM actually worked out with both Earth & Erid surviving is because of the deaths of Yao and Ilyukhina.
my dad likes to call the stretches of time where you’re not creating “dreaming periods” and says that they’re meant to allow you to absorb all of the beauty, life, and inspiration from the things around you so that when you’re able to create again, you will have fanned your spark back into a flame. sometimes its hard to see those moments as anything but stagnation, but he always says that they’re natural and healthy and needed—things that should be embraced rather than feared.
A writing course I recently did genuinely emphasised this as a critical part of any writing process - that unless you give yourself the space and the time to just imagine shit up and play in your mind, you’re going to find it really hard to get anything down on paper.
i love how being a robin is like. once a robin, always a robin. no one will ever understand what being a robin is like except other robins. you will grow older and your identity will change but you will still carry bruce's imprint in your dna. those are his moves. that is his voice in your ear. you will never not be a robin, you will never not be his. you will never be alone again, even when you want to be. you may have been the first, or the last, but you will never be the only. you are a robin. you will always be a robin. insane.
ugh we need more manipulative characters that aren’t evil. lie and cheat and steal for a good cause. control every narrative. use narcissism for justice. ruin all of your personal relationships for the good of the mission.
it's literally the evilest thing in the world to finally have time to write but then be tired. like wow you're telling me these two hours before going to bed are completely free but my brain is just Not Feeling It? fuck off
