Elaena stood outside of Aerion's chambers, with her forehead against the wooden door and her arms wrapped around her stomach. Aerion wasn't where he was supposed to be and neither was Rhaegel. She wished he was there. She wished they were both there. Oh, how badly she wished they were there.
It was all her fault thought.
She had been stupid. She had always been impulsive and reckless but for the first time, it had hurt someone besides herself. She moved her hand to the doorknob and held it for a long time before she pushed the door open and went inside, closing the door behind her.
Aerion's chambers had always been nice. Bright, open, neat. Just like him. The bed was made, there was a neat stack of books on the bedside table and there were drawings pinned to the walls that his children had drawn for him. Elaena pulled one off the wall of Aerion riding a dragon with a giant castle below it. It was drawn in all stick figures and "signed" by Aemond, but she was sure Aerion had loved it and treasured it. She sat down on the bed, and reached over to the bedside table. She opened the drawer, and inside was exactly what she was looking. The Valyrian Steel dagger their mother had given Aerion when they were young. Elaena had always been jealous of it. Why did she give it to Aerion and not her? She had always wanted it when she was young and all her mother had given her was a ring. She grew to love that ring—she wore it everyday now—just as the dagger had grown to represent her brother to her.
It should go to Aemond, she thought. She wondered if Roma would want to keep it until he was old enough. She didn't want her too. She wanted it to be apart of her until Aemond was older. It had been mother's and then her brother's.
She stood from the bed, clutching the dagger and the drawing to her chest. She left the room, closing the door behind her and wafted down the halls of the castle, a ghost in her own home.
Back down to the dragon pit she went—she couldn't avoid it and something pulled her there constantly. In the corner, just like before, lay Sivath, but he faced away, toward the wall and Elaena could not see his face. Slowly, carefully, she made her way down the steps, to the center of the pit. The ground in the center was blackened by dragon fire, more than any other place in the pit. She wondered what had happened to the egg. Had she created a smaller version of Summerhall with no dragon to show for it?
Sivath roused in the corner when he heard Elaena push away a quick sob. He lifted his head, glancing at her. The look in his eyes made her wonder if he knew what had happened. He opened his mouth just slightly and seemed to whine, as if he were sorry, as if he felt her pain. She walked across the rest of the pit, to Sivath's side. She placed a hand on his scaly side and rubbed up and down. He was warm, like always.
Sivath shifted his position, moving slightly out of his curled sleeping position. Elaena heard a strange sound from within him and when he moved his large wing, hidden underneath was a small, pale blue, dragon hatchling.
Everything from Elaenas's arms dropped to the ground suddenly, rousing the small dragon from it's sleep. A small cry came from its mouth, and Elaena moved slightly toward it. Sivath did not stop her.
She held out her arms, ever so slowly, and made clicking sounds with her mouth as if calling for a cat. The small dragon screeched again and hopped forward on it's small, tiny feet into her arms. She stood up, and it crawled up her arm onto her shoulder.
Sivath's raised his tail and let it fall, shaking the ground. He watched her carefully, as if she was a threat to the hatchling. It rubbed it's head against her cheek and Sivath settled down, lowering his head back to the ground.
Elaena wondered if that was enough approval for Sivath. Humans thought they claimed the dragons, but she wondered if they thought the opposite.
Remember my emotional breakdown yesterday?
It ended as soon as I looked in the mirror.
Forgot that I was NOT wearing waterproof mascara.
I looked like a propper panda bear.
Couldn´t stop laughing FOR AGES.
Yesterday a clear horizon
Now the clouds are rollin' in it's disappeared
The one thing that i've always believed in
It's strange how right now it all seems so unclear
I consult my soul
And it tells me that it knows There's no doubt one day
I'm gunna fly!!
