"Scott and Stiles were both to blame for their fight in s5"
is an opinion most of us have (I'm ignoring the delusional ones who blame the whole thing on Scott here)
I've posted and reblogged before what Stiles's fault is in the whole thing many many times, so let's focus on Scott for this one.
What part is his fault?
It's not that "He believed Theo over Stiles", or "He didn't communicate well enough", or "He's too morally uptight" (there are reblogs/posts on my account that invalidate all those arguments)
I think his real fault is not expressing how he feels.
Ignoring the show writers and their Stiles-propping here for a sec, Stiles does love Scott.
We've seen this in s1 and s2 when they were practically attached at the hip even though the supernatural invaded their life, in s3- the peak Sciles season when he talked him out of his suicide attempt, and s4 when he told him "You're still only human", and faced a gun to his head for him.
Stiles loves Scott- that's his brother for God's sake!
But then Scott started bottling himself up.
As the seasons progress, Scott shows his emotions less and less. He has fewer angry outbursts, fewer moments of losing control of his wolf, fewer split-second stupid decisions.
Like any flaw, there are tons of stuff that cause this of course- trying to be his own anchor, having a ton of expectations piled onto him, his own sense of self-responsibility etc etc, but the result is that he barely ever lets himself be vulnerable and human.
Which, for Stiles- Scott's day one who has been with him through all the highs and lows in life so far- is foreign and unfamiliar. He doesn't know who Scott is anymore. He feels too brave and kind and strong and perfect.
Hence the outburst,
(definitely lots of fault on Stiles's part too and not excusable of course, but that's not the topic here)
To which Scott doesn't get mad.
Stiles attacks him in the hospital- he doesn't get mad.
Stiles dismisses his fatal wound- he doesn't get mad.
He never, even once, voices how much he's actually hurt by what Stiles does.
And I really, really think that if he expressed how lonely and in pain and hurt he is- Stiles would feel bad about it. He'd get his head oit of arse and understand and apologise.
I mean, he cared enough to reassure Scott after he broke Liam's leg without him even saying anything.
In s5 he has way more on his mind with Donovan's death and later, his dad's injury, so it's excusable why he didn't notice how Scott was being isolated and pressured (Doesn't excuse the harassment, ofc)
But if Scott talked about it? If, on the way to get Kira from the Skinwalkers, he actually brought up his own pain instead of just focusing on Stiles's guilt over killing Donovan? I really believe Stiles would've realised how much of a bish he'd been and make it right.
some other fun gpose things from ktisis and brio :>
ktisis - autosave function
don't let the ddos attacks get you down.
ktisis - pose monsters, mounts, and other unusual models by toggling on the "other" and "body" bones
ktisis - wrangle full control of the camera
mess around with the camera's position, field of view, rotation and more. lock it to one character even as you edit others. disable collision and turn off the game's limit on how far the camera can be moved or rotated.
brio - make some fun effects
(with these two boxes at the bottom of the appearance popout)
alpha adjusts transparency
wet/wet depth does what it says on the tin
tints make your character and gear fully change color, great for silhouette effects.
the body/hair/other color options give you control over things like body and skin gloss too. i've used this to give a gold luster to skin for a sin eater look.
I'm a fairly new fan of the sport [first watched the 2021 season] and I immediately clicked with both Lewis and George. I hate hated seeing both factions of their fans fight.
What Lewis did in 2021 was unreal and his driving during the last 5 races of the season with that amount of pressure and with the biased stewards was nothing sort of legendary imo. He should be an eight time world champion, there's no doubt about that in my mind.
I was also amazed at what George was able to do in the Williams, he knew there was an opportunity to gain the Mercedes seat he was always promised my Toto. He knew he had to win F2 and F3 and he did, he was told to perform in the Williams and he did. Yes he had mistakes, which happens, but he's always owned them.
I was so happy he got the Mercedes drive, but now I'm not so sure. Two years into the regulations they don't seem to understand this generation, and teams are out developing them, the perfect example being McLaren. I don't think Mercedes are joining the championship hunt in this regulation era, but I do think Red Bull and McLaren will be going toe to toe next season, and maybe Ferrari, and hopefully Mercedes can still be the upper midfield.
I hate George's social media during race weekend, as you've pointed out the comments are just downright nasty. I know a lot of George fans, myself included have hated this and called it out, but Mercedes seem very reluctant to call out the Lewis fans hating on George. Yes Lewis is Mercedes, but so is George, he's been a junior for them and is their first one to get a seat in the team. Loyalty towards one driver within the team does not mean all basic decency towards the other should cease. It HAS to come to a point, hopefully soon that Mercedes say hate towards BOTH our drivers on social media is unacceptable. Yes call out the racism towards Lewis, but also call out the threats to George, because that behaviour could get very dangerous.
Hey anon! I think a lot of your opinions are almost exactly the same as mine; it's like looking in a mirror.
I am in my twenties and have watched F1 for as long as I can remember, so I was watching as a child when Lewis joined the sport in 2007. I have supported him ever since, remember drumming my heels on the floor nervously while perched on the edge of the sofa with my Ferrari-supporting family during Brazil 2008. I remember the confusion when he signed for Mercedes, and the subsequent chaos of the Brocedes era. I stopped paying such close attention for a few years, basically because I went to university and didn't have a reliable way to watch, and then got back into it in 2019 and 2020. The race that really truly sucked me in as a properly obsessed, chronically online sort of fan rather than the 'oh I wonder if there's a grand prix today?' type was Sakhir, principally George in Sakhir. I already liked him, but I have loved him ever since.
It was obvious from Sakhir onwards that George was destined to end up at Mercedes, and having two of your favourite drivers in the same team is both awesome and a complete nightmare. I'll be frank and say that I don't think there was / is any possible way for George to win going up against Lewis. I'm not talking about winning in terms of winning races etc, because he's already done that, but winning in terms of public opinion on him. If he came into the team and proved to be any kind of threat to Lewis, a portion of Lewis' fans were going to immediately turn on him. If he came into the team and fell into a Barichello / Bottas / Perez type of role, all of the anti-Lewis fans, hopeful that George would somehow discredit the idea that Lewis is an exceptional era-defining driver, were going to immediately turn on him. Whatever he did, a large group of vocal fans was going to hate him.
F1 is an incredibly challenging sport, but I think there are currently three roles in particular that are more challenging than the others. These are, in no particular order, being Lewis' teammate, being Max's teammate, and being Fernando's teammate. If we were to compare the drivers who currently occupy these three roles, George is far and away doing the best job. Yes, there is a large points differential this season and there is no doubt in my mind that Lewis is still the far more complete driver (especially concerning race pace), but there are caveats and George is by no means disgracing himself. To be 9-8 up in qualifying (12-9 if we include sprint shootouts) against a driver with 104 pole positions is a huge achievement. He is holding his own, which comes as a surprise to no-one who watched him at Williams, and time is on his side.
Sadly, in the face of a fan base as large and vocal as Lewis', this is bound to attract some negative attention. I am amused by the opinions; Lewis is the undisputed GOAT because his teammates have all been so tough, yet George is dogshit. All of this taking place against the backdrop of 2021 is hugely unfortunate, because Lewis absolutely should be an eight time world champion, and now it is seen as George's responsibility to facilitate this if / when the time comes. There is no doubt in my mind that George thinks Lewis should be an eight time world champion too, and yet if they do get the car in the next couple of years, I also have no doubt that he will think that he has just as much right to go for the title as Lewis does. I am dreading the day, but to be honest, he's right. You never know how things will change from one season to the next, and if George ends up with a title-contending car he is absolutely going to want to make the most of it, regardless of who is on the other side of the garage. If things are toxic now, they will be absolutely unbearable if / when that happens. I'll probably delete Twitter.
To sum it up, Mercedes have a massive problem. They have two confident, feisty, extremely talented drivers who are going to find themselves fighting over the same piece of track, and they need to work out how to manage them. They also need to figure out if it is more important to them to maintain favour with as much of the fan base of Driver A as they can, or to try and protect Driver B from the sustained online abuse that he is being subjected to.
