16. how do you motivate yourself to draw?

hm... honestly, i think i shifted towards discipline over motivation ^_^" i'll put it this way - i think of drawing the same way i do about working out. if i'm consistent, it'll be fun + i get results out of it, even on "worse drawing days" (BUT!!! that doesn't mean i don't take breaks - those are very important - or don't fall into slumps where i don't draw for weeks. stuff/life happens!!)

My singular non-TES fic! As the Stars Burn is a canon-divergent Star Wars fic starting just before Phantom Menace with the general premise of "what if there was another Jedi in the main cast whose master had visions?" that will domino-effect into Palpatine's defeat at the end of the Clone Wars. It follows an OC Jedi named Arist'ai Khrisafen (who is an original species based on one of the ones in my original fiction stuff) who is Very Used To being sent to places with basically no context and has picked up some rather fae-like mannerisms from their master. Afaik, it's supposed to be Arist'ai/Obi-Wan(/Satine?), but I think I'd have to rewatch at least TPM to get the vibes back.

The title is taken from a non-existent song that contains the lines "as the stars burn gold and blue / I'll love you like I'll lose you"

Arist’ai touched one clawed finger to the holocron crystal dangling from one pointed ear with a silent sigh. They liked Naboo, but like every other time before, they wished Master Sindyra could have been more clear about what they were supposed to do. Once they’d translated the code she used, the notes tended to be cryptic at best. ‘Two halves un-split’...so far their only guess was that they needed to get an audience with the leader of the Gungans and with Queen Amidala of Naboo’s more humanoid population; two groups that had been steadfastly ignoring each other for the past several decades. At least they enjoyed a good swim, and the capital city of the Gungans was dazzling beneath the marshes. The lights shone like tiny suns in the darkness of the water, making the bubbles that surrounded their platforms shimmer. Hands up and fingers spread to make it clear they were keeping away from the saber at their belt, Arist’ai used a trickle of the Force to activate the translator embedded in the half-mask they’d worn for this very purpose. They couldn’t understand the Gungan language well enough on their own, and they slightly lamented they didn’t have time to learn it. They bowed their head toward the guards that had come rushing to meet them, smiling close-lipped. “I come in peace, with a proposal of the same for Boss Nass.” A moment passed as the translator shifted their words into the closest equivalent, the guards watching them narrow-eyed and with spears raised. When silence fell the captain lowered his spear a fragment.

AH YES that's because. It's a different Shatha one. Or, well, more accurately, it was maybe going to be the beginning of my Shatha fanfiction.

It opens with Shatha's disdain and eventual murder of the bandit leader, and then she meets Cicero and his DAAAAMNEDEST WAGON WHEEEEEEL for shits and giggles. I was going to write how she murders the farmer and his wife, because that's ultimately how she ends up getting invited to the Dark Brotherhood [via creepy fella in a black robe later in a tavern, I think]. She's . . . not as scary as Vigdis, but in some ways she's worse and I really wanted to explore that. Alas, I haven't. So it sits and collects dust WHEEZE. Maybe someday I'll get to it

hi!! i wanted to say i love your art a lot, and i can't possibly comment on all the aspects i enjoy because i don't have the words lol. but i specifically wanted to say that i really like how you vary the speech bubbles of different characters (yam's being rectangular, kakashi's very almost bouncy and relaxed), its a unique touch that really adds a lot of personality!!

a fun fact abt comics is that assigning one character one type of speech bubble and assigning another such an obviously different type is largely frowned upon! and for good reason, it kind of locks the characters into one mode of emotional tone expression in their bubble forms!

largely, this doesn't impede me much, though i might not do it for a longform comic with a lot of characters

JENCER:

When I started shipping them: Kinda recently tbh?? Like I appreciated the ship for a while but it's only this year that I've actually become invested in it. My thoughts: I mainly like it in AUs, but I'm a big fan of enemies-to-lovers as a dynamic and I think it's fascinating how many parallels there are between these two. Their dynamic makes me go feral, especially as the series continues. What makes me happy about them: I think they have a fascinating dynamic and I'm a little obsessed with Spencer's spiel at the end of book two about how it all comes down to him and Jack in the end. What makes me sad about them: Uhhh I guess there’s no real way for them to have a happy and healthy relationship of any kind unless they both get a ton of therapy first, which won’t happen. Things done in fanfic that annoys me: It doesn't really annoy me per se and I actually don't read a lot of TFTGS fanfic in general b/c I'm picky about how the characters are depicted, but I guess I wish there was more fic that explores their dynamic and less just pure smut?? If that makes sense. Things I look for in fanfic: Yeah I just wish there was more fic genuinely exploring their dynamic and the possibilities of how that dynamic changing could affect them both! My wishlist: I want Spencer to calm the fuck down a little bit <3 Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Pretty much anyone else ASDFJKL; I actually wouldn't want these two to end up together in canon. But honestly I think Jerry is the best romantic option for Jack, so ❤ And I actually headcanon Spencer as being aroace for the most part, so <3 My happily ever after for them: They get some decent fucking therapy.

JACK TOWNSEND:

How I feel about this character: HE IS MY FAVORITE LITTLE GUY.... MY SPECIAL MAN.... BEST BOY..... I KIN HIM Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: Jack is my favorite so as per tradition with me in fandom I ship him with nearly everyone ASDFJKL;. But my favorites to pair him with are Jerry, Antonio, and Spencer. My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Him and Rosa, if only because the idea of them being queerplatonic partners makes me go feral. My unpopular opinion about this character: Idk if this counts as an unpopular opinion per se but I will die on the "Jack Townsend Is Trans" hill. One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: So I haven't actually finished reading the books just yet, that's my darkest secret </3 But I just want him to have a nice fuckingday for once. Favorite friendship for this character: It's a tie between Jerry and Rosa tbh,,, I just want them all to be besties </3 My crossover ship: I actually have multiple crossover ships for this guy, but y'know I gotta go with jacco (Jack and Silco <3) because that one lives in my head rent free lately <3

2. best episode or piece of extended material that you think is underrated?

Ohhh The Sins of Captain John is so so good!!!! Literally so glad that my friend made me buy it because it is excellent. Inconsistent lore for the resurrection gauntlets, a 17th century lesbian, and some more development for John Hart's character. This box-set made me fall in love with him even more. Also, great Jack and John banter! (and John being a horny bicon) Anyway, these episodes are worth every penny.

16. is there a plot line you wish had been expanded on/explored further in the show?

Gwen's relationship with theology. She talks to Suzie about what comes after death. What she thought would be the case (that she would be reunited with her family) was wrong, but then it doesn't come up ever again. I just think that would be interesting to explore! Like you have this exchange from COE:

RUPESH: She wrote this bit. She said, it's like science has won. GWEN: Lost her faith. RUPESH: More than that. She said she saw her place in the universe, and it was tiny. She died because she thought she was nothing. GWEN: I went through that. Even now, I get terrified. But at the same time, it is brilliant, and beautiful, and completely bloody magic. It's bigger, you know? It's like, it's like the whole wide world is bigger. My life is bigger.

I think it would have been really interesting if the show had delved into that some more.
