Heteroclitic - a Puzzleshipping fic

Cursed and trapped within the Millennium Puzzle in Ancient Egypt, Yuugi faces a long journey home. Amid the upheaval around him, one thing is painfully clear: Spirit and Vessel are destined for yet another heartbreaking separation when the time comes. With the darkest of fates lying ahead, what is left for the one who already knows the ending - run from it, or shape what remains into a new legacy?

Written for a dearest friend @millenniumcomics, Heteroclitic is a rereading of the YGO Canon reversing roles.

What if Yugi was forced into the puzzle? It uses time loops, has romance of course, and fishes elements from Claire-Obscure, involves magic, and tries to give the word legacy a new meaning.

Because in Yu-Gi-Oh! the future is always told as doomed.

My 2023 DVOD assignment rlly got me thinking about the YGO Egyptian afterlife almost like an organism… an organism with an immune system that can reject foreign bodies (Kaiba lol) and I want to explore that more in my YGOME assignment hehehe (I can’t say too much)

Your Hand to Hold

Summary: Six times Yugi held someone’s hand for the first (and second) time, and the first time his lover held his.

Down the tasteless hallways and creepy old corners, Kaiba’s room was a makeshift hospice set up in one of the spare bedrooms. The room was airless and cold; the white blanket draped around Kaiba neatly, tucking him gently into the bed.

Yugi sat on the stool already waiting for him, and tried to think of what he wanted to say. I’m sorry, or it’s for the best, or please don’t blame me. None of them fit, and none of them were worth speaking. Kaiba would have thrown his words back at him if he could.

I cut it SUPER EFFIN’ CLOSE, but people.

I finished NaNoWriMo (I have never done this before.)

60,450 words of glorious Yu-Gi-Oh! fanfiction, written over some hazy amount of time between 23 and 30 days. All as a gift for the Yu-Gi-Oh Mini-Exchange on AO3, and so, so, so awesomely extended for me by the mods (since I thought the due date was 11/30 and it was actually 11/20).

I’m going to give it a pass-over for editing when I wake up, break it up into chapters (it’s 149 Google Docs pages long), and then post it. And I’m going to pray to whatever might be listening that my giftee likes it.

I plan on posting something about all the Easter eggs I crammed into this story, but firstly and foremostly, I want to thank @kaibacorpintern for putting this damn idea into my head (accidentally). It’s not QUITE the story I came up with as a result of that notorious thread about Kaiba Corporation Holiday Parties, but it’s one hell of a build-up to that story...which I still plan on writing. 

Someday.

Just not, you know, soon. I need a break.
