I've figured out why I liked Isaiah so much immediately. He reminds me of Seifer from FF8, from his obsession with chivalry, impulsive nature, to the relationship he has with the golden boy Squall Xavier.

I can just imagine him dramatically yelling, "One of these days, I'm gonna tell ya 'bout my romantic dream!!" and then running off into the distance without a plan.

setting crossover ideas/prompts with Heaven Official's Blessing + MDZS, wrt Xue Yang and Xiao Xingchen specifically.

Xue Yang as a ghost and Xiao Xingchen as a heavenly official is interesting and all but consider instead:

Idea 1

We know people can ascend for inhuman feats that INCLUDE massacres and suffering, so I feel like there's something very compelling in BOTH of them being ascended as heavenly officials-- maybe even in the middle of the World's Messiest Breakup [TM]. Maybe orchestrating Song Lan's death or causing Xiao Xingchen's suffering/suicide was the last one Xue Yang needed to ascend, and Xiao Xingchen finally suffered so much he met HIS quota too at the same moment (and maybe Song Lan gets brought into the mix as Xiao Xingchen's… ghost… general). And now they're faced with having to deal with each other Forever, for good or ill.

Idea 2

What if, after Xiao Xingchen killed himself, Xue Yang's subsequent actions (possibly shit he did for Jin Guangyao, or possibly SUCCESSFULLY bringing Xiao Xingchen back as a fierce corpse/ghost, despite that never having been possible before with an unwilling spirit) gets HIM ascended to heaven, while Xiao Xingchen ends up a fierce ghost. Xue Yang appointing A-Qing as his deputy official even though she's still trying to kill him, bringing fierce ghost Song Lan up to heaven to experiment on him, ascended to fucking heaven and STILL not stopping trying to bring Xiao Xingchen back as a fierce ghost, or back to LIFE if he already is, or else just bring him up to heaven somehow.

Xue Yang is trying to prove a point about Xiao Xingchen not really being the pinnacle of Patience and Goodness that (Xue Yang believes) he presents himself as, a point about how people are inherently shitty to each other and even Xiao Xingchen will get fed up and reject him if he pushes hard enough

Xiao Xingchen, who knows only that Xue Yang has a shady past, is trying to prove a point about how people are inherently good, and how Care and Compassion allows even the worst people to change for the better

Unfortunately for both their plans and points, they just genuinely LIKE each other so much that Xiao Xingchen doesn't really WANT Xue Yang to change, and Xingchen's seemingly unconditional love becomes utterly disarming to Xue Yang
