you remind me of the chili neighbor from twitter and I have to say I can't get behind "just talk to your neighbors". like okay get poisoned or stalked or something. like just trying to be friends with someone because you're forced near them is problematic and weird.
Purposefully (or ignorantly) misunderstanding my comment isn’t a way to foster understanding. It’s not problematic or weird to get to know people who live near you. In fact, it’s one of the main reasons we’re able to exist as a society. Your parents and your grandparents knew at least one of their neighbors and I guarantee you that there’s at least one story of that being helpful and good.
People aren’t inherently bad. People aren’t all out to get you. Thinking that way is doing you more harm than good.
Should you be cautious around new people? Absolutely. But assuming all of your neighbors are these big scary mean people is problematic and weird. And it’s never going to allow you to meet anyone and foster real connection.
This bad-faith, anonymous lecturing is problematic and weird.
