I was talking with someone on how I'd approach a Gunshow swap au, because ultimately, I think swapping Puzzles & WPNZ jobs would be hard considering how integrated they are into their design. Instead. you'd have to swap their personalities to a point that they would sort of already have a job swap. Rambling below because i was not drawing a comic to convey all of this.
Specifically I ramble on my take on
Opposite AU swap vs. Personality AU swap
Opposite AU (think shattered glass from tf)
This focuses more on the inverse of their personalities rather than them switching personalities with eachother or switching jobs with eachother. Kinda sorta a swap with wpnz and Karen but I think it's impossible to inverse wpnz and not inverse Karen with their story line. Karen is still a good mom don't worry
OppositeSwap!Puzzles
- kids entertainment, specifically slop
- instead of speaking all overdramatic, he speaks like kid youtuber clip farms
- embraced the imperfections of making content rather than the perfections
- tries to humanize himself in any way possible vs puzzles grandiose way of being better than everyone
- has a large following and channel but lowkey wishes he had kept a smaller following so he keeps making new pseudonyms and alts
- suffering from success
OppositeSwap!WPNZ
- family man, got out of the assassin biz as soon as Karen was pregnant because it was a convenient excuse
- Karen stays as katana and takes the kids with her to be a whole assassin family
- WPNZ still has his assassin skills so all he does really is continuously have run ins with them to make sure they have like. Their lunch bags. Etc.
- finds toomp like a stray dog and decides to take him in.
- think kinda Toriel like. He tries to dad everyone and convince people not to fight.
- he and puzzles meet while he's working at Walter Mart and wpnz is all "omg the kids love you!!"
Swapped Personalities AU (a bit scuffed)
So inherently swap aus are give eachother their 1. Personality or 2. Job.
I think the best way to go about these two is when their personalities swap so much that they focus on the goal of the other. So here: Puzzles is more focused on the means to the end of a shipped product/movie. He doesn't care about fans or attention, as long as he's doing numbers. WPNZ, on the other hand, is all about attention rather than the job. Sure, he wants to be praised, but more so by his fans. He wants to harbor a following that tells him how good and cool of an assassin he is.
SwappedPersonality!Puzzles
- Cold and cruel TV show host
- Focused more on the show going smoothly than ratings
- All of his media would look completely normal from a veiwers' perspective. Maybe a few "this is shockingly realistic" moments but otherwise normal. Behind the scenes is where most of the damage would be done.
- Doesnt care as long as the job gets done which means he manipulates and abuses his actors just to ship a product (which he already does but yk, better)
- Is the type to kill a person for a horror movie to cut costs
- doesn't really interact with fans at all, no care for the attention
- pretends to be loving in front of the cameras but the moment they turn off he's left the stage
- is willing to produce slop because his audience wouldn't know the difference.
- essentially willing to make anything as long as the audience eats it up. No drive to make perfect cinema because his goal is just numbers.
- lowkey hates television
- "that's just show business" as he puts you down like a dog
SwappedPersonality WPNZ
- SUPER over the top assassin
- he wants the news talking about how batshit INSANE the things he did were
- willing to get sloppy during a mission if it's for attention
- the type to leave cryptic messages lying around a scene and get annoyed when the news cant figure it out so he writes in knowing stuff only the killer would and lowkey gives himself away
- constantly obsessing over Karen and writing her after every kill
- lowkey does all the over the top stuff in hopes that Karen would see it
- complete wildcard that couldn't be controlled by the assassin corps which is why he ends up making his own business
Anyways! That's my ramblings and I would love to hear anyone else's opinions/thoughts. If I get ideas, maybe I'll make doodle comics of some of this but no promises. I'm bad at finishing things
Very odd that Simmons's holographic ideal Grif's only words were,"I love boners!" Very odd especially because you'd expect that caricature from Tucker... not Grif
y'all Kieran Burton posted a bunch of TikToks today and . . . now I want to write a modern Benjicot/Davos story. would there be any interest in this???
(I say this also knowing that I'm working on the next chapter of "I love you. It's ruining my life." and another Benjicot oneshot . . .)
thinking thoughts about billys self medicating and about steve trying to get nancy to slow down at the party and how steve genuinely probably could have helped billy if given the chance (like i dont think its my harringrove riddled brain talking, i fr think steve would have helped)
Three times have I tried to answer this and I’ve written something and then tumblr shits itself and I lose so PLEASE let’s try this again.
What strikes about Steve is that he literally NEVER in the whole show tries to get Nancy to do anything like drink or smoke or whatever.
In season 1, he offers Nancy and Barb a beer, and that’s when Barb, feeling clearly left out, decides to try shotgunning, gets hurt, etc. after that, Steve doesn’t try to get her to drink or anything. He’s smoking nearly the whole time and doesn’t offer it to her or gets her to try it, anything.
He’s also very respectful of her sexual boundaries. In the studying scene, he starts pushing his luck by suggesting they strip study, and he does go for the buttons on her shirt when theyre kissing, but she pushes him away, and he goes. At his house, he turns around so she can change. Clearly, they’re in his room and he’s wanting something to happen, but he lets her make the decision. She tells him to turn around.
ANYWAY season 2. The whole reason he wants to go to the party is to be “stupid teenagers”. In that library scene, he doesn’t say, let’s get shitfaced ass drunk. He says he wants to go to a stupid party and wear the costumes they had worked on and dance and be stupid.
WE ALSO DONT SEE HIM DRINK AT THAT PARTY.
Nancy starts drinking and it’s very 10 Things I Hate About You and he is immediately on the question, because this isn’t like her.
He knows she’s only drinking because she’s upset, and he tries to get in between that, because he knows this is past her boundaries, even if she made the choice to do it on her own.
(She’s clearly interested in drinking and things bc if she weren’t, she would’ve told Murray to fuck off when he made her a drink later in the season)
Even in season3, we get the joke about marijuana, but we never see Steve in a scene where it’s even implied he’s high, unlike season 4 Jonathan, but I digress.
ANYWAY canon Steve isn’t really a substance user.
Now, Billy.
In season 2, he is smoking in all but two scenes. He’s drinking like mad at the party, but he’s also just fucking pounding a beer in the middle of the day on like a random Saturday. So, clearly his boundaries around substance are not as clear as Nancy’s. BUT it’s interesting to think about what those interactions could’ve looked like.
I think there is a certain level of substance use Billy would bring out in Steve. There is not a single doubt in my mind that Steve starts smoking again when he and Billy hang out more, even if he is only smoking occasionally. But, at Steve’s little season 1 party, he had five people there, and some beer. There was no hard liquor that we saw, and everyone was shown to only really have 1-2. They literally went to school the next morning. Like. These bitches were not guzzling hard alcohol.
Some of those behaviors would natural rub off on Billy. Having a beer while hanging out instead of something harder. Only having a few instead of a case. Eventually, he starts having them less frequently (read: stops drinking by himself midday while working out like a weirdo).
Steve’s biggest personality trait is how much he fucking cares.
Everything he’s ever done, is because he cares about Nancy, or Dustin, or Robin. Sometimes, in canon, we (myself SO included) inflate that a bit, but even bitchy season 1 breaking the camera Steve, did so because he cared about Nancy, and about the violating pictures of her that Jonathan took. Even the little moments of him giving Carol is meatloaf in season 1, because Tommy squished hers around, mans CARES.
So OF COURSE that care would extend to Billy. And sometimes, it’s more subtle. Sometimes he’s outright trying to pry a bottle out of Billy’s hand and telling him to tone it down. But it’s all because Steve’s Harrington’s #1 Thing is caring about people.

I’ve gotten 2 of these on this blog, and this is literally a blog I don’t even use lol it’s just my main.
BUT thank you so much! You are a wonderful writer, I am especially obsessed with your fairy Steve au it’s so good!
ALSO I do NOT see nearly enough fanart of the background characters from season 10 flashbacks. The blonde chick with the kiss mark armor??? The smiling and frowning machine gun twins??? Like rosterteeth popped off with the original character designs
