I haven't seen anyone comment on this yet and wanna know your take on it
What was Philip thinking would happen after crossing the portal?
It's pretty obvious that at this point he was using magic to remain in his human form, like how he used magic to get rid of the green mark on his face. I'm pretty sure that his monster form is his real form now.
We already know there isn't natural magic in the human world, wouldn't he just shapeshift into the monster form after passing through the portal? Or even if he could keep using the magic already "stored" in his body from all the Palismen he ate, that magic would certainly run out fast, he doesn't have a way to get anymore magic
Best case scenario: he would turn into his monster form a few hours/days after going back to human realm
Worst (and most likely imo): he would just fucking die when running out of magic
See, I'm of the opinion that when Philip killed the Palisman Monster in Hollow Mind, he gained full control over the curse from them. In the finale, he only really used his monster form for making brutal attacks, a tactic that would work better than his usual calm and collected-ness due to the number of people he was battling. Then, when faced against Hunter, he immediately shifted his face back to Philip because he knew it would hurt Hunter more. That was tactical.
Now, after he’s been splattered everywhere and then brought to the Human Realm...? I’m not sure. The question is whether or not his acquired magic is similar to a bile sac’s, because if it is, then he’ll probably be able to regenerate entirely. I think he’ll have to lay low for a bit, either as monster or human, until he gets his strength back.
I hope his human form is entirely gone now, though, because wouldn’t that just be icing on the hypocritical cake for him.
