Edgar Yipsel Harburg (April 8, 1896 – March 4, 1981), known as E.Y. Harburg or Yip Harburg, was an American popular song lyricist who worked with many well-known composers. He wrote the lyrics to the standards, “Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?”, “April in Paris”, and “It’s Only a Paper Moon”, as well as all of the songs in The Wizard of Oz, including “Over the Rainbow”...
I really love this mash-up with with both versions of Buddy Ebsen and Jack Haley's "If I Only Had a Heart" playing at the same time. They're both unique, in their own ways.

POOL TIME: Which version of "If I Only Had a Heart" do you prefer?
❤️ Jack Haley
❤️ Budy Ebsen
Bonus: Roger Daltrey's version, which is just so out there and yet just so him it works. And he did while wearing a silver trash can as a hat.
"Jazz Lab:" A Quintessential Hard Bop Collaboration
Introduction: The late 1950s were a transformative period in jazz, as musicians explored new forms of expression within the evolving subgenre of hard bop. This era gave rise to some of the most innovative recordings in jazz history, many of which still resonate with listeners today. One such recording is “Jazz Lab”, a remarkable collaboration between alto saxophonist and arranger Gigi Gryce and…
40-year-old Vincente Minnelli made his directorial debut with Cabin in the Sky, which opened on 9 April 1943.
Minnelli had been steeped in the theatre, working as a costume and set designer, stage director, and Cabin in the Sky had been a successful Broadway musical, running for more than 150 performances between 1940-1941.
Rex Ingram and Ethel Waters appeared in both the stage and film versions, and the all-black cast included 25-year-old Lena Horne, as well as Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington and his Orchestra.
Cabin in the Sky was a box office success, despite many theaters (mostly in the South) refusing to screen the film due solely to the color of the cast.
“Happiness is a Thing Called Joe” (written by Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg, and sung by Ethel Waters) was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
still a very crucial album, to me, personally
