For some reason, it was too hard to go to sleep tonight; Hayi just couldn't find herself getting comfortable. In the wee hours of the morning, she had hopped out of her dorm and started lurking--keeping an eye open for people who would get her sent back to bed.
After wandering in front of the girls' dorm for awhile, she made her way to the courtyard, open to the front gates, both dorms, and the main building. The boys' dorm still had a few lights on here and there, as did the girls'. Looking at the main building, it was much more ominous at night, especially with most of the building's lights off. The metal gates at the entrance of the school were almost glowing with the way that the moonlight was hitting them.
Hayi hummed quietly to herself, shuffling her feet on the ground, trying to figure out what she wanted to do. She could try to break into the main building, mostly just to escape the wrath of the wicked mosquitoes that were out tonight. There wasn't anywhere else to go, if she wandered off campus she'd probably just get lost in the city, she didn't know her way around. She could try to hop into the boys' dorm, but she didn't know anyone she cared enough for to visit.
She heard a bit of rustling only a few meters from her, causing her to duck into a shadow. It's not that she was afraid of getting in trouble, she was just startled that there was something in the darkness. Thoughts started to fly into her head in a panic. Why do they leave the gates open, someone can just waltz right in! What if it's like a rabid animal or something, oh god. The rustling ceased and she let go of the breath she had been unintentionally holding.
Stepping back into the open space, Hayi glanced back at the school building, scratching at her wrist. There was nothing else to do, and she wasn't sleepy yet. She pulled out her phone, the soft glow illuminating her and some of the space arond her. Big, white numbers blinked on the face of her phone, reading: 3:48 AM. Sigh.
The rustling noise started again, this time it was approaching her. It wasn't really a rustling, though. The noises sounded more like footsteps on and off of cobblestone and grass. Someone else was walking around. Hayi bit her lip and cradled her phone to her chest, blinking around in the darkness. It was light enough to see objects, but not bright enough to identify people. She wanted to call out and ask who was there, but she didn't want a response from a prefect or janitor. Hesitantly though, she whispered, "Hello?"
