Hey Sarah! How's everything going? I'm sorry for coming today with a silly question, but, I've seen some of these in your page I think is worth the try. Does Wakana sing along with Kaori and Eri Itou in the chorus of "A Song Of Storm And Fire"? I've seen the live performance but no matter how much I try, I can't hear Wakana's vocals in most of the song (in the video she seems to be singing the chorus). Sorry for the rather dumb question, I hope you're having a wonderful day! (^o^)/
Hi there anon!
No need to apologise. I should be the one apologising because it has taken me forever to get to this ask. I am so sorry you have had to wait this long for your reply. But today is finally the day, it’s the end of the year so I want to empty my inbox XD
As for your question, it’s not silly at all. I can understand why “a song of storm and fire” would cause some confusion. It’s one of those songs that always gets edited A LOT, both during the live itself (= Yoshio Ohira’s magic) as well as during the studio editing process (= studio magic). I don’t know why exactly that happens but I guess it’s mainly to make it sound more epic and grand. Unfortunately that also means that it is extremely hard to make out specific nuances. What I am trying to say is that you shouldn’t really trust what you hear in live performances of this song since they are quite heavily distorted.
The part you are referring to has Kaori and Wakana backing up Eri Ito. Eri’s vocals are very much in the forefront whereas Wakana and Kaori’s vocals are pretty toned down, Wakana’s more so than Kaori’s (probably in order to not interfere too much with Eri’s main melody). That is why you can’t really hear Wakana’s vocals all too well (or at all).
But if Wakana is SEEN singing you can bet your ass that she actually IS singing. XD Yuki Kajiura’s utahimes are not the type of singers to “pretend” to be singing.
So yeah, that’s really all I can say about this.
