I think Mary is one of my top 3 characters like I just LOVE her so much!!!
Okay onto hcs,
I hc her birthday as February 14th, 1959 and the oldest of 5 kids. Her siblings being Marley (they/them (1 ½ years younger), Kymani (he/him(4 years younger), Myrie (they/she (5 years younger), and Kemarie (she/her (7 years younger) and that when McGonagall gave her the news she was a witch and was going to Hogwarts she begged her to let her stay back a year so she could help her mom with the kids because Kemarie was only 3 and the next year she would be in daycare so she could leave them then and McGonagall/Dumbledore allowed it so she is in the same year as the Marauders and Valkyries.
I also hc her as Halfblood (having a pureblood father) but not knowing it so she was raised in the muggle world with no knowledge of the magical world (I could make a whole post about her parents and sibling dynamic).
I adore the hc that Mary is trans so much (like I cannot see her as cis).
I see her as coming off very confident and proud but internally she is very insecure and always very anxious people know about her and shes very worried about her siblings (which is part of the reason she leaves the magical world after school/doesn't participate in the war).
She was very used to bullying so when Snape's gang started making fun of her and helping her ut was nothing new but it hurt more that Lily didn't stick up for her because she did every time they picked on Lily.
She is definetly sapphic or bi in my mind which I feel like that would cause a slight crisis (because boys like girls and girls like boys and if I'm a girl I can't like boys and if I like girls am I really just a boy? Would be her mindset).
I see her as overcompensating her queerness with extremely forced comphet relationships just because she knew she was a girl so she couldn't like/be with girls but she'd always be uncomfortable or unhappy in them (especially since she didn't come from a rich or pureblood background where she was raised to be the perfect wife (or with an example of what they thought that was) so there would always be lots of fights and conflict)
I absolutely love marylily/saintflower or emmary! I also love the valkyries (lily marlene and mary or with dorcas too) in a polycule because that just sounds so cool! I also like mary×peter too because why not (not my favorite thing but sure).
I definitely have to make a post about her on my side blog soon so I'm going to leave it there but thank you so much for this ask because Mary needs more love imo. (Which I could make a whole long post about how Mary (and Dorcas) and how they need more rep (or just all the girls tbh)) And I am more than happy to provide that!!! Like I said i LOVE Mary so much and I can't wait to make her long post over there. (I can tag you when I make that post)
