Bluebodied Woodpecker

The blue coloration of this nervous bird is due to the insect it feeds upon, and the creamy insides of the thick grasses it both eats and lives inside. It's behavior is not well documented. However, it remains a staple of the Hawaen diet, whose hunters catch the birds by approaching their holes during the day when they are asleep, scaring the birds to death, and stealing their eggs. Their calls are low and drawn out, like the call of an elephant. They represent family oriented people, and people who don’t often complain. They taste similar to turkey.

Tan and Red Crane

Stalking-waddle Bird ➥ D. Alballowes 

The Tan and Red crane of the inner table is tall, four meters in height, and heavy, almost 80 kilograms. They are covered in coarse, short, musky-yellow feathers, save for the breast and cheeks, which are a ruddy red, forming a mask on the bird’s face. Its beak is long and sharp. Its wings are small and vestigial, and give it no ability to fly or glide. It has a tail bump with no real flight feathers, and has two front toes and one back toe per foot. They are wide spread with long but dull claws. They can sprint up to 50 kilometers per hour, with short stops in between. They prey upon snakes, bees, fruit flies, and also eat the soft insides of thick grasses. They also eat Mambro fruit and frogs when they can. They are fairly solitary birds, but can form lasting friendships, and often look for familiar birds. They walk with a distinctive waddle in their gait. They are not often eaten, but their eggs are sometimes boiled pickled as a treat.

Longbear

Longbear ➥ F. F. Ursa

The largest mammal on the table, the Longbear, despite its name, is a long=bodied feline with wide shoulders and narrow hips, recognizable by the dark stripes on his rump, similar to the now extinct Tasmanian Tiger. They require large, forested areas to inhabit and are fiercely territorial. They have four toes per foot, in addition to a flexible dew claw, of which the claws are non retractable. They weigh, on average, 525 Kg. They usually reach lengths of 600 centimeters. They stand on their hindlegs to display dominance, and often avoid human contact. The mouth is small in comparison to the skull, which is square and cubic. The Longbear’s teeth are stout and sharp, but relatively short. It is purely carnivorous, and while not particularly aggressive toward humans and other Longbear, when approached, it will fight vigorously. It is solitary and the offspring, most often only one, stay with the mother for only 6 months. During that time, the female is extremely protective. It's an opportunistic hunter, targeting sick or elderly prey, and are ambush predators.

Watercoons

Watercoon ➥ P. Ursamane 

Watercoons are effectively the same as modern raccoons. They are medium sized mammals who live near waterways, preying upon fish and mollusks. They have four fingers per hand and foot, and a small grouping of hair near the rump, similar to a rabbit’s tail. They have a darker facial mask, of which is usually black but may be any degree of liver, dark cream, or dark brown, and a body which is typically cream. Albinism is not uncommon, and white Watercoons are typically taken as ill omens or of bad luck and malevolent spirits. Melanistic Watercoons often are taken as good omens, in contrast. They are nocturnal and omnivorous, and are fairly intelligent animals. Despite the resemblance in appearance and diet, Watercoons are far more aquatic, and act more similarly to badgers and wolverines than to true Raccoons. They are solitary, aggresive, and equipped with chainsaw-like teeth.

Feral [Wild] Dog

Typically thin and angry tempered, the Hawaen Wilddog stands 30 inches at the shoulder, and weighs about 80 Lbs. They are light on their feet and constantly hungry. They are known to be aggressive, and to drool when excited or overly stimulated. The coat is rough and coarse, and the skin is pink and loose. They are about the size of a large coyote, and display similar behavior and attitude. Their skulls are long and pointed, and the limbs are long and exaggerated. They are remarkably intelligent, but often overzealous in hunting, which they do in packs of up to 70 individuals. They are excitable and loud, and their YAP, YAP, YAPYAP YAAN calls can be heard at night, and while they’re only considered a pest, they have been known to hunt and eat adult humans, especially larger packs. Despite the Wilddog’s tendency to be aggressive, territorial, ravenous, and ill tempered, they are gregarious and vocal. They mature at 11 months, and produce litters of 6-20. They live about 10 years, and have a dominant female. They are not often scavengers, but larger packs and solitary males will consume carrion if desperate. They do not howl and instead yowl. The large, tusk-like teeth are used to fight and display dominance. They do not have lips to cover them, and when one is lost, they do not regrow them. The second eye is vestigial, and serves no purpose. The head is heavy and muscular, and the tail is stiff. The tail is used to balance when running.

Hawes Goat

Domestic-Wild Goat ➥ C. A. H. Hawaes

A feral goat similar to modern domestic goats and not much different at all. They are farmed for hide, milk, cheese, meat, fur, and companionship. Though, breeders typically only have herds of 2 to 5, as the nomadic lifestyle of most proves difficult to care for more. Those who live in villages often have much larger herds, often into the twenties, depending on wealth. The typical coloration is white with brown and black spotting, and they rarely reach a height of more than 12 to 13 inches. The females lack horns entirely, and the males have horns about the size of a thumb, with rounded tips. Domestic Hawes goats have developed the classic fainting goat characteristic.

Equipped with stomachs of steel, feral Hawes goats are known to overeat and destroy the forest patches in which they live, much like the feral pigs of North America. They are also terribly hostile.

Hawaen Dog

Domestic Hawaen Dog➥C. L. Re

A large, domestic canine. A shepherding breed, these large dogs, around 28-30 inches at the shoulder depending on diet, were made to guide and defend herds of goats, young children, and homes from wild animals and other people. Their coats are typically dark brown and plain, occasionally with a darker dorsal stripe. Their tails are naturally stumpy, and their tusks continue to grow until the day they day. Known to be fiercely loyal, Hawaen dogs are not particularly social, and give birth to 2-3 offspring a litter. They often need assistance in reproduction, and generally, the darker the individual, the more fit the offspring. Like their ancestors, the domestic dog has a vicious hunger. This makes it difficult to own multiple adults for poorer families. They usually live to five, and are typically not very healthy.

Back slopes are common, as is hip dysplasia. Paler tone individuals tend to be deaf.
