I assume that Him didn't erase Emma's scars because 1. she doesn't have her ear and 2. it doesn't help her family find her like the tattoo would have

which makes me feel kinda sad for her because can you imagine how she and her adoptive grandpa reacted when she discovered them?

She wakes up and he gives her a change of clothes or she goes to bathe/shower or whatever and sees these two giant scars on her abdomen, she looks some more and sees some more scars, little ones, here and there. Some look like they're from tumbles or falls, from horsing around while playing, others look like they're from something less wholesome

Maybe that's why the grandpa never really pushed her or sent out a message during those 2 years that he found a young girl who's missing her memory. Cause after they discovered her scars and that talk they had before the graveyard, he assumed they were all dead, killed in some war or something given her rifle and old scars. plus for all he knows she lost her memories from the trauma she has from whatever "killed" her family
