Yo가 망한이유

간단히 Yo에 대해 생각한 걸 남겨본다.

주변에 긱한 사람들이 많아서 그런지 나는 Yo를 초창기부터 지금까지 써왔다. 지금은 망해가는 것 같은 Yo. 처음에 4시간만에 만들었다는 그 앱, 그냥 Yo만 할 수 있었던 때는 정말 재밌었다. 이게 무슨 Yo인지 상대와 나의 History와 Context속에서 정답을 찾는 재미가 있었기 때문이다. 12시 30분에 보낸 Yo는 점심먹자고, 그 외에 보낸 Yo는 나중에 뭐였나고 묻기도 하고, 혹은 편하게 무시해도 되는 그런 매력이 있었다.

어느날 Yo location이 추가되면서 진짜 재미 없어졌다. 이후에도 여러 기능이 추가 됐었는데... 여튼 Yo는 우연히 만든게 대박이 났고 그다음 스텝을 잘못 밟은건 아닐까 싶다. Yo에 목적을 싣기보다 차라리 Yo에 감정을 싣도록 했으면 좋았을 것 같다. 이를테면 강한 Yo(‘Yo!!!’)같은. 그럼 여전히 매력있고 좀 더 나은 서비스가 되진 않았을까?

Context, context, context. Without context, you’ll annoy the heck out of people, they’ll unsubscribe and you’ll end up shouting into the void.

These are best practices for Yo, but these apply to messaging users in general.
