Marshall Applewhite - "Leave Earth" EP Released on Yo Sucka!
I hope you're used to hearing about this guy because we're not even close to being done talking about him. He is a good friend to us here at Hope and Bass but also a major influence on a lot of our production work. Marshall Applewhite is one of Detroit's creators of the genre coined "Sludge" alongside The Friend, Shady P and more. It is a dark blend of sounds deriving from Techno, House, Acid, Grime, and Moombahton. Between Applewhite and his Sludge Cohorts How to Kill, F.A.M.E. Collective, Local Heat, and more they have amassed an air tight foundation for their genre with well over 100 tracks over the last 2 years. Most the songs we have heard sound like a S&M dungeon soundtrack that would make Trent Reznor get the heebs. Yet his melodies tend to walk the line between beauty and filth. Applewhite definitely lets us into a different world with his new EP "Leave Earth" which pre-dates his Full Length of the same title soon to be released on Yo Sucka! For a while I didn't think it was going to be easy finding a lot of 110 on vinyl, but these dudes have fulfilled my needs for darker slower tunes able to creep out just about anyone.
