The second half of the movie is about the waifus that Shinji experiences as a result of the nuclear meltdown, and how he attempts to stop it by using various means, ranging from the most creative to the most idiotic (like getting a feel of the controls), but none of them seem to work.

But it gets better than that:  in the final battle, when Shinji is trying to use the final bomb to put an end to the war, he experiences the same waifus that Eva Unit 00 had, and dies fighting. He dies fighting, and as a result, dies for the sake of humanity. Thusly confirming that Nagi no asukara is nothing but a fiction created by Shinji and that, as a result, he is nothing but a glorified pawn. And by the way, that's also why he's barely alive: because the game keeps telling him that he's dying, and he's still in the middle of it.

What I think  is that in a very Freudian way, society is what's inside you.  The unconscious or biological structure that makes up your psyche is but a small part of the whole, and your unconscious mind is but a tiny part of the whole. The unconscious mind is the real enemy, and you have no other choice than to accept its reality. It's the part of the brain that is reflexively attracted to stimuli that lead to something, which is the same for everyone.

Only in retrospect do we realize that it was all a ruse. It seems pretty clear that anything can be taken as a meme, that anyone can be defined by their meme-like behavior. And that's what happened to Meme we discussed yesterday.

He was only a meme because he was self-aware. And that's probably the coolest part of it. By definition, he is everything that is not himself. He is the global meta-meme which finds its global meaning in everything.
