Without my family or friends, I am nothing. And so I feel deeply for those who, during the recent calamity that struck the Philippines, have lost everything---and by everything I mean the loves of their life, their children, parents, families, friends... I honestly cannot imagine myself being in the same situation. I might never be able to understand how the victims are feeling right now, but having a family of my own and people who mean the world to me, I know how much it must hurt, and so I feel very, very sorry for all their loss. Although this is probably one of, if not the most painful thing the Filipinos have had this year, we can't do anything about what has already happened, or take back what has already been lost. What we can begin doing now is to learn how to accept, and how to heal. I am no one to say this, but I believe that sometimes, the Lord lets such horrible things happen in our lives in order to test us in ways we would never be able to comprehend. I believe that somehow, if we would all be able to keep on hoping and believing amidst all the rubble, we'll be in a far better place than we ever were. Such large realities can open our minds and hearts in a way we will never be able to if nothing like this ever happened. I still believe there's a reason for everything, and that reason must be to never stop believing. "Be still and know I am God." - Psalm 46:10
