❝ ....❞ Hey, isn't that that fly he tried to eat like 2 months ago?
She'd gotten away by flying out of his tongue's reach, now that some time has past it didn't really seem worth the energy to attempt again.
Yooka could imagine that was terribly traumatic for her, —seeing his face again would probably be very triggering.
Yooka didn't really fail at catching a lot of bugs, he's usually a fantastic hunter in that sense and couldn't remember the last time any bug or flying insect survived an encounter with him. Melody had literally lived to tell the tale and in the amount of time since their last meeting Yooka wondered if she'd told any of her insect friends about the big mean green chameleon.
Yooka could see it now, Melody probably painted him as some long-tongued monster, a scaly predatory beast, —like a dragon that couldn't breathe fire or fly.
It hits Melody by the time the big chameleon enters her vision that she’s afraid. She feels it in her heart and wings beating faster in tandem, tugging at her to turn the other way and buzz off. Her mind sends the sensation through her of his sticky tongue having surged past her, millimeters off its mark.
But curiosity prevails over instinct and memory, and she approaches him. She’s still fascinated by how far his tongue can stretch, even though he had used it cruelly. She likes his bright colors and his tail that reminds her of a pig’s tail, because of how it curls. Now, if only he could be kind and listen for just a moment…!
Melody doesn’t have to get his attention, as his eyes are already fixed on her. She hovers and zips to the left and right in the air, mindful to keep a good distance.
“Do you remember me?” she calls to Yooka. “Because I know you. I would like to talk with you. I really would! But are you mad at me? Are you hungry? Then I won’t. I’ll fly very high and go away again,” she tells him simply.
