I truly believe that in the last episode, Rieul was gearing up for suicide by cop. Realistically, he'd lost everything.

-his best friend was dying/already dead

-he thought Ahyi believed him responsible for the murders

-the police wanted him in jail or in a mental institution

The only real way out that allowed him any autonomy was for the cops to kill him. We see this in the way he casually wields the knife, in the resolve in his eyes as he watches the officers approach him

Then Ahyi calls out and all that changes. His face, posture and even eyes soften, he immediately puts down the knife so that the cops don't have any reason to shoot/endanger Ahyi

When she climbs the stairs to the stage, you see the realization in his face that she does believe in him. We see this incredible weight lift from his shoulders

Then the snow starts, a little gift just for her

(unrelated but the look of raw adoration in his eyes right before she throws the cover over him breaks my heart)
