The House of Us (2019) Review

The House of Us (2019) tells the story of Hana (Kim Na-yeon) over the course of summer break. Hana seeks out new friendships with two younger girls who are sisters as her own family life is growingly unstable as her parents argue incessantly and her older brother never speaks to her.

Hana finds herself spending a lot of time with her new friends, they cook small meals together and play. Hana realizes later that two girls live alone in the city while their parents work in the countryside.

Yoo-mi (Kim Si-a) and Yoo-jin (Joo Ye-rim) are confronted with impending eviction as their landlord shows their apartment to potential renters. The three girls leave the city to search for the parents of young girls. The three are forever bonded by love, friendship and their new forged understandings of their present realities.

This film over the course of its 90 minute runtime was able to detail how coming-of-age causes one to lose a sense of innocence that childhood is typically shrouded in and that children are complex. Children should not be slated as unintelligent and naive. I give The House of Us (2019) a 5-star rating.
