Little Jungkook has often stared at the night sky searching for the Wild Hunt among the glimmering constellations. Even though he has only heard stories, gossips and rumours about it, he has always admired the fairies who were part of the Hunt. Those immortal, fearless fighters defeating evil in every form. He has never met any of them and his Court said he shouldn’t wish to because the years have hardened those fairies, made them cold on both the inside and outside. And Jungkook who likes warm springs and light rain showers followed by rainbows more than the snowflakes of chilly winter knows he could never join them but it doesn’t change his admiration. Not even a bit.
One day as he’s making just another flower crown on the top of a cherry tree with his legs swaying high above the ground humming a song about cherry blossoms when the sky vibrates. It’s weird, a feeling and sight he has never seen before during either of his stargazing sessions. There’s a luminescent glow over the constellation of the Andromeda and then something - or someone? - falls out of the sky as fast as lightning.
For a moment Jungkook just sits there still, hands frozen in air, flower crown long forgotten. He isn’t sure it really happened or only his imagination played a trick on him out of fatigue because the sky looks normal, the woods are quiet like nothing extraordinary has ever happened and everything remained the same. But then he decides to check it out, just to be sure because his curiosity has always been stronger than his mother’s warning about staying safe.
The ground is muddy under his bare feet as he lands there with a smooth jump but he’s careful enough not to make a big noise to awake the sleeping forest. His heart is beating like a drum at crescendo as he approaches the spot beneath the place where the sky opened. And there, in the middle of a rings of glowing flowers there’s a motionless body. As he gets closer he notices the prettily decorated metal vest over the stranger and his heart squeezes. A wild hunt fairy!
He steps closer, crunching down next to the immobile figure searching for any sign of life, be it faint heartbeat or even breathing. Laying his head over the chest of the fairy he waits and waits until he hears the slow thumping of a soldier’s heart and his shallow, painful breathing. Relieved Jungkook looks up at the fairy’s gorgeous face made of smooth lines, a button nose and thick eyelashes fanning over his pale cheeks. He’s very pretty despite the battle scars scattered here and there. However, the most worrying part is the draining blood from his abdomen and even if Jungkook is shy he’s a good enough medic to know there’s no time to waste when it comes to so big amount of external bleeding. He blushes as he unbinds the ties of the vest and pushes up the bloodied shirt beneath to get a good look at the wound. He sucks in a breath seeing those purple bloodshots spreading over the smooth, lean stomach like spider web. It still burns slightly as it’s made by a magical item all over the right side of the wild hunt fairy.
Jungkook quickly brings his herbs and potions to treat the wound not daring to move the body when he doesn’t know the extent of the injuries. He makes pillow of flowers under the head of the other fairy and wipes off the blood before sterilizing the wound with a mint cream.
“Sorry,” he murmurs when the wild hunt fairy hisses at the stinking feel. He makes the half-conscious fairy sip some of a nutritious soup containing an extra shot of magic to help him heal faster and lower his temperature. He busies himself with changing the herbs and the bandage to a fresh one over the wound from time to time and it seems to work because by the time the Sun reaches its peak, the stranger slowly blinks his eyes open.
He has sharp, dark eyes looking around confused. When his gaze settles on Jungkook, sitting not too far with pearl-like flowers in his hair, the forest fairy blushes for god knows why.
“Are you feeling okay?” he asks tentatively and reaches to help adjusting the pillow beneath the wounded creature’s head.
“I– I feel as if tons of brick weighed on my chest,” the latter replies and his voice is still rough and hoarse from disuse. He looks up at Jungkook with both curiosity and suspicion in his eyes. “Who are you?”
“My name is Jungkook and I was the one who find you… after you fall out of the sky,” he tells him docilely. “What’s your name?”
“You can call me Yoongi,” the other answers and when he doesn't say anything else, Jungkook continues:
“I treated your wound the best I could but I’m not sure I did good enough with the healing spell.”
“Ah,” the stranger grunts as the realization seems to hit him finally about what happened. “Thank you,” he murmurs as he looks down at his own body wrapped in bandages.
“Everybody in my Court would have done that,” Jungkook shrugs and picks up the bowl of soup from the ground. “Try to eat some.”
When the other takes the bowl and swallows a few spoonful from the thick soup he looks so pained suddenly. Not physically though, rather sad but Jungkook feels obligated to ask:
“Is everything okay?”
There’s a small pause. Jungkook almost gives up thinking the wild hunt fairy didn’t hear him or doesn’t intent to talk at all when Yoongi speaks up quite firmly.
“Everything is never okay. Not with the Never Ending War going on.”
“That’s happening up there?” Jungkook, a fairy who has never left the forest, can’t even imagine something like it. The forest is what keeps him alive, so he can’t leave and maybe that’s why he stares at the battleworn fairy in awe.
“Yeah,” Yoongi whispers with melancholy lacing his words and then soundlessly he drifts back to sleep.
He dreams of golden bloodshed and hands trying to choke him. When he next comes to consciousness, the boy who saved him sleeps peacefully a bit away. Yoongi’s pride has been tramped on already by getting so wounded that the enemy was able to push him down and now he had to be saved from an ungraceful death by a stranger. How pitiful from a soldier of the Wild Hunt! Still, no matter how grateful he is and he doesn’t want to take advantage of Jungkook’s hospitality. He needs to leave. However, as he tries to get up, a sharp pain runs along his spine and he falls back with a painful yelp. It startles the forest fairy awake. When his savior asks him whether he’s okay, he just turns his head away.
After a day or two - it’s hard to decide in a bewitched place like this - of no talk, next morning while replacing the magically charmed bandage, Jungkook poses a question.
“How is it? The Wild Hunt?” he specifies quickly at the other’s questioning gaze. He’s trying really hard not to be too prying, to violate the other fairy’s privacy but he was so curious. “It must be nice being together with the other soldiers all the time.”
For him the thought alone seems like a blessing. Even though he isn’t good at socializing and usually he’s reserved at first but he craved company. He loved spending time with the animals of the forest, the little birds and squirrels but sometimes he didn’t want to just talk but listen too.
“You can also be lonely while surrounded by people,” the injured fairy murmurs barely glancing his way.
Jungkook immediately starts justifying his actions by excusing them.
“Sorry it’s just… I rarely have visitors apart from the Court messengers. I guess I’m a bit lonely and I thought...”
The mint haired fairy looks at him as if he understood.
“It’s okay,” his eyes and voice both soften as he looks at the doe-eyed creature. The words that have been on his mind for so long but he never said them out loud are finally there, rolling off his tongue. “The hunt is busy. It never stops. Years go by in seconds. There’s no time befriending or mourning mates. We have to keep fighting or the darkness would seep into this world, too. It has already had in various forms.”
“It sounds sad,” Jungkook comments as his imagination about glorious battles followed by feasts dissolve into nothing. The wild hunt fairy doesn’t say anything, just hums. He cannot disagree with that.
Things shift for the better between them as time passes. Day after day and week after week, they get slowly closer, almost friends. At least they talk now and Yoongi’s wound seems to heal nicely and fast with fairy magic.
Jungkook enjoys having company around but he has always known Yoongi would leave. He should have seen it coming but he’s not prepared when he sees the older putting his metal vest back on and the air get knocked out of his lungs.
“Are you going back?” he asks in a small, hopeful voice and the wild hunt fairy looks at him apologetically.
“I have to,” he nods since he knows it’s his responsibility and obligation as a member of the Wild Hunt. “And I surely overstayed my welcome.”
Jungkook wants to tell him that no, he didn’t but he has a more important thing to ask:
“Will I see you ever again?”
The question seems to faze Yoongi as he looks at Jungkook in his soldier attire. He looks confident in his own clothes, not those borrowed shirts with too long sleeves. He doesn’t look as delicate now as he looked in those. And his eyes have something to them too. Something peculiar that he cannot tear his gaze away from.
“You might,” Yoongi answers slowly and well-thought-out because he doesn’t want to lead the younger on and make promises he can’t keep. He has always been bad at that. “Just keep looking at the sky and you’ll find me there until that happens.”
After it’s said they look at each other a bit awkwardly, both anticipating what’s next but then when nothing happens Yoongi cracks a rare smile and disappears into thin air like he has never been there to begin with.
Jungkook isn’t a kid anymore but he still stares at the night sky a lot. Now, he searches for a fairy with sad smile but warm heart among the constellations and little does he know that Yoongi looks for him, too.
~The Mins and The Jeons are two of the wealthiest families in Seoul. Rather than being rivals, the families were close as can be.
From a young age Yoongi and Jungkook were told that as soon as Jungkook turned 21, the two would marry in order to create a stronger legacy. With this lingering in the back of their minds, the two grew up. As they grew older, their love became true, as the arrangement that started it all became real.
“You are my Past, Present, and Future. Without you, I would be nothing”

“Do you want to get married?”
Yoongi looked over at Jungkook from his spot next to him on their bed. The younger was staring at his soulmate mark with a serious look on his face. He was lying down with his arm held over his head, his other hand tracing the colorful birds in flight that made up the mark. Each of the birds flew a few spaces behind the other in a spiral pattern that went off his hand, providing the opportunity for his soulmate to complete it when they held hands. Yoongi closed his laptop halfway and pushed it towards the end of the bed to give the other his full attention. The screen’s bluish light dimmed, allowing the colors of the TV on mute across the room to play across their features with dancing shadows.
“Um, sure,” Yoongi said hesitantly, turning to face Jungkook. Silhouetted against the setting summer sun, he seemed artful and dramatic for a brief time.
Jungkook snorted, dropping his arm to the bed with a thud and turning his head to face Yoongi, effectively shattering the artsy illusion. “So much confidence in that response, hyung.”
“Kook-ah, what did you expect? We’re in bed at 9 p.m. on a Friday night. We’re already married,” Yoongi joked. He rested his hands lightly on Jungkook’s stomach and got more serious. “What prompted you to ask this now?”
Jungkook sighed and turned back to look up at the ceiling. “It’s just that…our soulmate marks don’t match.”
Yoongi glanced down at his own mark winding around the opposite arm as Jungkook’s, falling off his hand in a way that would allow it to connect perfectly with his other half. The musical notes were beautiful and simple, and Yoongi had always hoped that whoever his soulmate ended up being would be just as perfect, but then he had met Jungkook, who blew all those expectations out of the water.
Jungkook was ten times better than the soulmate the universe had chosen for him.
Yoongi could say this with honesty, having met the man he was supposed to end up with. It had been early in his relationship with Jungkook and almost ruined it completely, but it all worked out for the best in the end. Hoseok was nice and all, and he was Yoongi’s soulmate in every other sense besides romantic, but Hoseok was his best friend. He didn’t make Yoongi’s heart beat as hard as Jungkook did.
“I know,” Yoongi agreed, able to tell Jungkook had more that he wanted to say.
“And-and we-we don’t have sex. Like you’re completely celibate now because of me.” Jungkook had started using his hands to talk.
“I don’t care about that Kook-ah.”
Yoongi honestly didn’t. He had known Jungkook was asexual long before he started to pursue the younger. Jungkook was the president of their LGBT program at school. He didn’t exactly keep it a secret.
“I know you don’t and that’s part of the problem. Or well, not the problem, because it’s not an issue. It’s like the opposite of an issue. You’re just so freaking perfect and you weren’t even meant for me. Hell, I don’t know who was meant for me, but I already know they can’t be as understanding or-or-or as patient as you. And everyone just keeps telling me that you can’t have a real relationship with someone that isn’t your soulmate. I’m terrified that one of these days you’re going to realize it. That this isn’t a real relationship and leave me, but I-I don’t want that. I don’t even really think that’ll happen, because we’re truly happy. I want you to marry me so that my stupid friends can fucking stop putting these doubts into my head,” Jungkook ranted, his voice getting higher and higher pitched the longer he talked. His eyes were wide as he glanced back at Yoongi.
Yoongi furrowed his eyebrows, “So you want to get married to prove something to your friends? What kind of people are you hanging around with anyway? Wait, is it someone I know? Because I can have Seokjin fight them.”
“No, sorry, no. That came out wrong. I don’t want to marry you to prove I’m in a ‘real’ relationship to my friends,” Jungkook instantly backtracked, his arms waving above him as if to erase the words. “I want to marry you because the more they talked about how our relationship wasn’t a true relationship because we aren’t soulmates and we aren’t sleeping together, the more I realized that it was a true relationship. Like, we’re in a full-blown adult relationship with love and respect and communication and shit.”
“Oh. Okay. Yeah, sure. Let’s get married then,” Yoongi said with a nod. “Because we love each other and don’t need the universe telling us who we need to end up with. Soulmates don’t have to be romantic.”
“I think everyone got that when you told Hoseok that you couldn’t possible develop romantic feelings for someone who actively fanboys over Twice,” Jungkook pointed out. “Twice isn’t even that bad.”
“All their music sounds the same, Jungkook. I’m not going to get into this with you again tonight,” Yoongi said, turning with a huff to retrieve his laptop from where he had pushed it away.
Jungkook let out a laugh before tugging on Yoongi’s sleeve to get him to bend down and kiss him. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Yoongi mumbled against his boyfriend’s lips.
Yoongi had barely managed to turn back to his work and refocus before Jungkook spoke up again. “Don’t think I didn’t notice that you’re too soft to fight anyone and had to propose recruiting Seokjin to fight your battles.”
“Shut up,” Yoongi grumbled, pulling the pillow out from behind him to hit his boyfriend in the face.
