People think this song is a parody or satire. It's more in line with reality. Da Yoopers are not well known outside Michigan and the Midwest, aka Great Lakes region. But their songs are pretty damn funny. Hunters can laugh at themselves.

Okay I know it's fairly obscure but I love Joe Pera Talks With You. It's remarkably earnest and heartfelt which feels special in the current media landscape.

I also love it because it's set in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where I grew up. I'm not from Marquette (the city where it's set) but I've been there a lot and I know it pretty well.

What makes me love it more that I don't know if people fully realize it - Joe Pera is not from Michigan. There really isn't a solid reason for it to be set here. It could have been in New York, where he's actually from. And yet it's filmed on location. I recognize many of the filming locations. I'm pretty sure they even cast locals as extras because I recognize the accent from the region in some scenes.

And there's a certain pride Yoopers (what peopl from the upper peninsula are called) have, and somehow Joe Pera nails it. The character often brings up Michigan things in a way that I only know Michiganders to do. He gets it, and I'll always love him for that.
