So, Big Finish were offering a discount on the download of "Spare Parts" (I assume to tie in with the finale) so I bought it and it was pretty good! I don't know if it had the full effect on me that it was supposed to, probably down to the fact I listened to it the day after watching "World Enough and Time" so that was still fresh in my mind, but I still enjoyed it and that scene when cyber!Yvonne goes back home is truly disturbing. So I'm thinking about trying out some more Big Finish, but I'm not sure where to start... what are some good stories or series you'd recommend as good starting places or jumping on points? Also, how much does it help or add to the experience to have watched the full Classic series first? I've watched a fair few episodes but mostly just First Doctor stories since I was aiming to go through the show in order, but I got kind of burnt out on it... (2/2)

I actually got into Big Finish prior to finishing Classic Who myself. It’s totally a doable thing. I’d seen a lot of the early eras, but very little of the 80s Doctors that make of the bulk of audio content.

It’s doable, for sure. Some stories do expect a familiarity with the Classic Series and build a lot on such plots, but not all do. There are many very accessible stories and ranges. My advice would be, stick to standalone stories or arcs with new companions where you can, as those are a lot more accessible without Classic Who experience.

My personal favorite ranges right now are Doom Coalition and Torchwood. I dunno if you’ve watched all of Torchwood, but if you have, I highly recommend those audios. And Doom Coalition is a new series-style delight, with strong characters, a strong arc, and lots of delightful River Song content. Those would be my recommended starting places right now!

Tbh I lost my mind at many moments during the 50th but “all thirteen” was definitely one of them, also in “name of the doctor” when john hurt was revealed in the first place, and more recently the huge climax of the “hardhome” episode of game of thrones but alas we have vastly differing opinions on that show… I was tempted to make a “bad poosey” joke in reply to this post but I think we can both agree that moment (and plotline) is best left forgotten…
